Light
Unapproachable Light
Yes, there is a good
reason God is an Unapproachable Light
His Purity and Righteousness
condemn us all
But through Jesus
Christ, His Mercy and Grace make it possible for us
To be like Moses, a Friend
of God and see the back side of His Glory
God places the earth just 8 minutes from the
light of the sun for a reason
God in our life
should be far enough away from us so no one would take His Glory
And close enough that we would walk without
spot or blame
Unapproachable Light
In Exodus 33, Moses asked
God to see His Glory.
You may be like many believers and many songs
of worship crying out to see the Glory of God.
God answered Moses…
And the LORD said,
"I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you,
and I will proclaim my
name, the LORD, in your presence.
I will have mercy on
whom I will have mercy,
and I will have
compassion on whom I will have compassion.
But," he said,
"you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live."
Then the LORD said,
"There is a place near me where
you may stand on a
rock. When my glory passes by,
I will put you in a cleft in the rock and
cover
you with my hand until
I have passed by.
Then I will remove my
hand and you will see my back;
but my face must not be seen."
Exodus 33:19-23
"You cannot see
my face,
for no one may see me
and live."
John tells us…
No one has ever seen
God.
But his only Son, who
is himself God,
is near to the
Father's heart;
he has told us about
him.
John 1:18 NLT
Paul writes to Timothy…
— God, the blessed and
only Ruler,
the King of kings and
Lord of lords,
16 who alone is
immortal and
who lives in
unapproachable light,
whom no one has seen or can see.
To him be honor and might
forever.
1 Timothy
6:15,16
God “Unapproachable Light”.
Habakkuk sees the Glory of God as the sun.
His glory covered the
heavens
and his praise filled
the earth.
His splendor was like
the sunrise;
rays flashed from his
hand,
where his power was
hidden.
Habakkuk
3:3-4
The sun is an unapproachable light.
The light of the sun reaches
the earth in 8 minutes.
The sun’s diameter is 109 times the size the earth,
the sun makes a really big sphere.
You could fit 1.3 million earths inside the sun.
Or, you could flatten out 11,990 earths
to cover the surface of the sun.
Think about the last time you were
outside with no cloud cover and
the temperature was 95 degrees.
Image the earth and sun stood still,
soon that spot you are standing in
would become so hot you and all other
living things would be consumed.
We have sent space ships to observe the
sun in December, 1995, and October, 2006.
Although we have gotten closer to
the sun, the sun is a consuming fire.
God is like the sun…
He is an “Unapproachable Light”.
Yet, like the sun, its light reaches the earth
to give us the light and heat we need.
The profile of the sun has made great
analogies to help us understand God from
the Old Testament writers throughout
the New Testament and by preachers today.
Although God is not the sun, the sun helps
us to understand the realities of God.
As John says…
This is the verdict:
Light has come into the world,
but men loved darkness
instead of light because their deeds were evil.
Everyone who does evil hates the light,
and will not come into
the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.
But whoever lives by
the truth comes into the light,
so that it may be seen
plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
John 3:18-21
Jesus said about Himself…
I have come into the
world as a light,
so that no one who
believes in me
should stay in
darkness.
John 12:46
As Paul writes to Timothy about God being
an “Unapproachable Light”…
He reminds us that
whatever our achievements
are, whatever position in life might be…
If we become a king, God is still KING of kings.
No matter how many people we lead,
God is still LORD of
lords.
We are reminded as men and women of God…
To flee darkness and
pursue righteousness,
godliness, faith,
love, endurance and gentleness.
Fight the good fight
of the faith.
Take hold of the
eternal life
Because God is the Unapproachable
Light, we are to…
Make a good profession of our
faith to keep this
command
without spot or blame
until the
appearing of our Lord
Jesus Christ
Yes, there is a good reason God
is an Unapproachable Light,
His Purity and Righteousness condemn us all.
But through Jesus Christ, His Mercy and
Grace make it possible for us to be like
Moses, a friend of God,
and see the back side
of His Glory.
God places the earth just

God in our life should be far enough away

Scripture Reading
Habakkuk 3:3-4 NIV
His glory covered the heavens
and his praise filled the earth.
4 His splendor was like the sunrise;
rays flashed from his hand,
where his power was hidden.
1 Timothy 6:11-16 NIV
11 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue
righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take
hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good
confession in the presence of many witnesses. 13 In the sight of God, who gives
life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius
Pilate made the good confession, I charge you 14 to keep this command without
spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 which God will
bring about in his own time — God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of
kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone is immortal and who lives in
unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and
might forever. Amen.
