Light
Bring it to the Light
Chicken farmers
candle their eggs to see if the egg is fertile
They bring it to
light to see if the egg has life
We too need to bring
to the Light our work to see if it is fertile and has life
Do regular inspections
bring your work to the Light of God’s Word
Let the Light expose
every area of your life
Like building a house
What you do and what
you say make a weak or strong structure
The nail may not be
exposed but it is important
So let the Light
reveal the small details because they too matter
Take time to candle
your eggs to be sure you are working with fertile eggs
Light
Bring it to the Light
My dad told me one of the many jobs he did
in his life time was working on a chicken farm.
There he learned to “candle chicken eggs”.
Many of us have no idea what
candling chicken eggs means.
There are two
purposes for eggs…
The one is food and
the other is to reproduce.
When reproducing chickens you
want to make sure they are fertile.
An egg that is not fertile will rot
and give off bad smelling gasses.
These eggs can even explode
and produce harmful bacteria.
Candling eggs is a process where
you bring the egg to the light.
The light allows you to see through the
shell to see if the egg is fertile or not.
When we hear the term “bring to light”
we think of revealing something.
Often we think of revealing
something inappropriate or illegal.
To “bring to light” is a process
of revealing information.
Like a yearend budget report…
A yearend report reveals how
the year actually played out.
The budget is made at the beginning
of the year to help achieve goals.
At the end of the year when the numbers
are in the light, reveals the achievement.
You may be on track,
you may have missed projections and
can learn what worked and did not work.
Then you may find monies were embezzled,
an inappropriate use of funds.
It is important to bring to
Light what we have done.
But often we do not bring to
Light the things we are doing.
We move forward not taking the time
to bring the information to the Light.
1 Corinthians 3 parallels the work
of our life to building a house.
The important thing to see as we look at the
building of a house or anything else is…
Is its foundation.
“For no one can lay
any foundation
other than the one
already laid,
which is Jesus Christ.”
verse 11
When we bring to Light our works
or any other works, the first thing
to bring to Light is the Foundation.
If the Foundation is not Christ, there
will be a problem with the building.
So often in life we start inspecting
what is on the foundation without
checking out the foundation first.
There are a lot of good window manufactures
but put them in a structure on a sandy beach
and those windows will soon be in the water.
There are a lot of good ideas, programs, and plans,
but without the right foundation they will not last.
As you invest in building life, be sure your
work is on the right Foundation, Jesus Christ.
Even with the right Foundation, we can
build with materials that are not durable.
It is easy to see in the list of materials
in verse 12 which ones are lasting…
If any man builds on
this Foundation using
gold, silver, costly
stones, wood, hay or straw
There will be a “Day” that
will bring everything to Light.
A day that will test your work and mine.
The test will not be looking
for how hard you worked.
It will not be looking to
see how passionate you were.
When our work is brought to
Light only two things will matter…
On what Foundation did you build and the quality.
Bring our works to Light means
putting it through the fire.
There is very little that fire cannot consume.
I have always been amazed
when I sit around a camp fire.
Watching the fire consume a wood log.
It takes something and eats
is up as it is burning.
You cannot see where
the log is going
because it is disappearing before your eyes.
Where did that beautiful oak
or maple or black walnut go?
The color and grain of that wood
vanishes never to be seen again.
But gold and silver and even
precious stones don’t burn.
If there are impurities in them
the fire separates the impurities.
If you and I care about our work, we will
bring what we do to the Light regularly.
We will not wait till the end
when the Day of the Lord comes.
We must bring our works
to the Light of God’s Word.
Our inspection must
focuses on the Foundation.
The parable of the house built on sand
and the other on the rock…
Tells us the houses
could have looked
the same but the one on the sand failed.
Check the quality.
As a builder, I
installed
a Formica counter top.
The dishwasher door
leaked and the steam
swelled up the counter and now needs to be replaced.
Our motives…
You may be as good as
gold,
but gold can have
impurities,
which effects quality and value.
Do regular inspections bring your
work to the Light of God’s Word?
Let the Light expose every area of your life.
Because what you do and what you
say makes a weak or strong structure.
The nail may not be exposed
but it is important.
So let the Light reveal the small
details because they too matter.
Take time to candle your eggs to be sure
you are working with fertile eggs.
Scripture Reading
1 Corinthians 3:10-15 NIV
10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an
expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be
careful how he builds. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one
already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If any man builds on this foundation
using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 his work will be
shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be
revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work. 14
If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. 15 If it is burned
up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping
through the flames.
