Light Shades of Gray

Light
Shades of Gray

Isaiah give us strong warning concerning turning light into darkness
Woe to those who call evil good
and good evil,
who put darkness for light
and light for darkness,
who put bitter for sweet
and sweet for bitter. Isaiah 5:20
Let the Light of God shine
Let God be God and every man a liar
Rationalization is the brush that paints the shades of gray
Don’t be satisfied with gray
Walk in the Light of the Lord

Shades of Gray

Isaiah gives an invitation in Isaiah 2:5…

Come, O house of Jacob,
let us walk in the light of the LORD.

The Light of the Lord is Truth.

Isaiah gives strong warning concerning
turning light into darkness.
 Isaiah 5:20

John says in 1 John 1:5-10…

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

There is a problem with humanity…

…we claim to be without sin, we deceive
ourselves and the truth is not in us.
1 John 1:8

This is called Rationalization.

In psychology and logic, rationalization or rationalisation
is a defense mechanism in which controversial behaviors
or feelings are justified and explained in a seemingly
rational or logical manner to avoid the true explanation,
and are made consciously tolerable—or even admirable
and superior—by plausible means. Wikipedia

From the beginning of humanity,
 we have rationalized truth.

Adam and Eve rationalized truth changing
the white light to a shade of gray.

The spectrum of grays are increasing.

As I look back over the 60 some years of my life,
I cannot believe the speed of changing shades of gray.

“Ever heard of the “one foot rule”?
Throughout the ’50s and ’60s, a series of rules called The Hayes Code kept everyone on television in line… and out of bed. The rules stated that any married couple seen on television in bed had to be in two separate beds. You may remember the how on Dick Van Dyke reruns, Laura and Rob slept in twin beds separated by a nightstand. The same went for I Love Lucy…. Marriage, love and sex also began to take new shapes on television, as well. It wasn’t until 1968 that television aired its first interracial kiss, when Cpt. Kirk and Lt. Uhura gave a lengthy embrace on Star Trek. In 1991 came the first televised lesbian kiss, on L.A. Law. It took another six years, though, before Ellen Degeneres would tell the world she loved ladies and would become the first openly gay main character. The first homosexual kiss between two dudes? You can thank Dawson’s Creek for that, when Jack and Ethan locked lips on the season finale in 2001.”
She knows evolution of marriage on television

The alcohol and drug abuse problem is the result
of rationalizing and gray shading of their use.

Popularizing is a key to
the brush stroke of gray.

Our justification for graying the truth
is to say “everybody is doing it”.

Because of social media, a small group
can be made to look like the masses.

We accept the grays because it looks popular.

The great Apostle Paul said he could
not stop shading the truth with gray…

When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am!
Who will rescue me from this body of death?
Romans 7:21-24

John says we all hold brushes of gray…

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive
ourselves and the truth is not in us.
1 John 1:8

The truth be known…

We all love gray more than the white Light of Truth.

I think the most important
thing is for us to know this…

To know we all rationalize
so we cannot trust ourselves.

The world of gray says accept it.

But look at the problems
accepting the grays has caused.

We have told ourselves that it is not
wrong unless you get caught and…

If we get caught, we see how well we
have colored life with rationalization.

We believe rationalization will set us free.

But it does not set us free.

Paul and John tell us only
one thing will set us free.

It is confessing the gray…

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just
and will forgive us our sins and
 purify us from all unrighteousness.
If we claim we have not sinned,
we make him out to be a liar
and his word has no place in our lives.
1 John 1:9,10

Isaiah gives us strong warning
concerning turning light into darkness…

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil,
who put darkness for light and light for darkness,
who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.
Isaiah 5:20

Let the Light of God shine.

Let God be God and every man a liar.

Rationalization is the brush
that paints the shades of gray.

Don’t be satisfied with gray walk
in the Light of the Lord.

Scripture Reading

Isaiah 5:20 NIV
20 Woe to those who call evil good
and good evil,
who put darkness for light
and light for darkness,
who put bitter for sweet
and sweet for bitter.

Romans 7:21-25 NIV
21 So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight in God's law; 23 but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? 25 Thanks be to God — through Jesus Christ our Lord!

So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God's law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.

1 John 1:5-10 NIV
5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.
