Light
Unfolding / Entrance
The other day I found
some old maps
The kind you used to
buy at the full service gas station when taking a trip
The folded map came
long before the GPS
These maps are folded
and give no direction until unfolded
It is interesting
that the NIV translates Psalms 119:130 saying
The unfolding of your words gives light
The picture of God’s
Word is that of a folded map
A map that when
unfolded reveals the Journey of Life
Unfolding the map
Do you love unfolding
God’s Word and the entrance of light it gives?
Remember that the
Word of God when unfolded can show you
Where you are at and
how to get to your destination
God’s Word has you on
the map no matter where you are at
Or, how lost you may
feel
Love the Map and the Map

Unfolding / Entrance
The other day I found some old maps.
The kind you used to buy at the full
service gas station when taking a trip.
The folded map came long before the GPS.
These maps are folded and
give no direction until unfolded.
Years ago when we would travel,
we would open the map
and spread it out
on a table before leaving on our journey.
This allowed us to get a larger view.
From this view, we could see for miles.
Living in Toledo, Ohio, we
would travel to Michigan for vacations.
With a Michigan map we could see from
Toledo to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
We could find the best route
to get from one place to another.
But when we got in the car,
we folded the map to show where we were at
and a short distance toward our destination.
As we traveled, we would unfold the map to
reveal our position and the continued course.
It is interesting that the NIV
translates Psalms 119:130 saying…
The unfolding of your
words gives light.
The picture of God’s Word is that of a folded map.
A map that when unfolded reveals the Journey of Life.
It not only reveals the shortest
journey but the scenic routes.
Sometimes in our travels
we get off the direct route.
But where ever you are at, the map can
show you how to get to your final destination.
God’s Word is like that…
It needs to be
unfolded.
We need to see the big picture.
But when traveling,
we need to focus
on the folded sections of His Word.
Some of the other translations may be more
accurate as they translate Psalms 119:130 to say…
The entrance of your
words gives light.
God’s Word unfolds light.
God’s Word is the entrance of light.
The Psalmist talks of God’s Word as
something that is “wonderful”.
v. 129
God’s Word gives “understanding”
v. 130
The Psalmist speaks of God’s Word as
something he longs for with deep desire.
He recognizes God’s Word is full of direction
and commands, but he sees them as helpful.
The Psalmist sees two paths…
The path of God’s Word and the path of sin.
The path of God’s Word and
the path of others leading him.
The desire of the Psalmist is not preaching
but expressing his desire to obey God’s Word
for the light he needs on the path of life.
The end of this portion reveals a special
light that comes from obeying God’s Word.
It is the light of God’s face…
His shining pleasure
in His servant.
It is what we call Grace.
The Psalmist is looking for the Favor of God.
Personal knowing God approves of
the direction and journey of his life.
The Psalmist also is burdened with the problems
that come from disobeying God’s Word.
He says in Verse 136…
Streams of tears flow
from my eyes,
for your law is not
obeyed.
Unfolding the Map…
Do you love unfolding God’s Word
and the entrance of light it gives?
Remember that the Word of God when
unfolded can show you where you are at
and how to get to your destination.
God’s Word has you on the map no matter
where you are at or how lost you may feel.
Love the Map and the Map Maker.
Scripture Reading
Palm 119:129-136 NIV
Your statutes are wonderful;
therefore I obey them.
130 The unfolding of your words gives light;
it gives understanding to the simple.
131 I open my mouth and pant,
longing for your commands.
132 Turn to me and have mercy on me,
as you always do to those who love your name.
133 Direct my footsteps according to your word;
let no sin rule over me.
134 Redeem me from the oppression of men,
that I may obey your precepts.
135 Make your face shine upon your servant
and teach me your decrees.
136 Streams of tears flow from my eyes,
for your law is not obeyed.
