Light
Prophetic Light
Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about
by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the
will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
2 Peter 1:20-21
These prophets and
what they said did not originate with themselves
We even see that the
prophets were not able to fully interpret
What they said and
wrote
Amazingly, God did
not need their full understanding to communicate His Word
These prophets were
people living in the world
Needing to make a
living like you and I
Preachers and
prophets do the same thing, “Speak the Word of the Lord”
At his appointed season he brought his word to light through the
preaching entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior. Titus
1:3
The Spirit of God
lights up our hearts so that when we speak
We would be preaching
and prophesying
Entrusting in the
appointed season God will bring His Word to Light
So if any of us speak,
let us speak as the Spirit gives us utterance
God wants His Light
to shine through you
Will you speak for
Him?
Prophetic Light
The Light of God’s Word
how does it get to us?
One of the first answers is the Bible.
The Tables of Stone God wrote the
10 Commandments on are the only
hand writings of God we know of.
So what about the Bible?
I, for one, would let it be my guide
even if God had not written it.
The Light it sheds of living life makes
more sense to me than anything else.
So if God did not physically write the Bible,
how did His Words get
in the pages of our Bibles?
Much of the Bible is stories of the lives of
people who God used and worked through.
Stories are very helpful because
they give us examples of life, helping
us to better relate to God’s Word.
And as the saying
goes…
Wisdom is learning from other’s mistakes.
In our Bible are books written by prophets.
These guys are credited with speaking
and recording God’s Word to us.
Now that is pretty amazing because
the audible voice of God is rare.
Peter writes…
Above all, you must
understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own
interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men
spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
2 Peter 1:20-21
These prophets and what they said,
did not originate
with themselves.
We even see that the prophets were not able
to fully interpret what they said and wrote.
Amazingly, God did not need their full
understanding to communicate His Word.
These prophets were people living in
the world needing to make a living to
put food on the table and pay the bills.
They lived in a variety of times and
most of those times were very hard.
Maybe that is why God used them.
Because in hard times,
we search for God
in deeper ways and our hearts
are more open and receptive.
These prophets spoke as they
were directed by the Spirit of God.
The amazing connection in hearing
from God is the Holy Spirit.
I like the way Peter
says it…
Men spoke from God as
they were
carried along by the
Holy Spirit
The prophetic did not sit at a stenographer’s
desk and record what God was saying.
They were carried
along.
What they wrote came
from
a journey with the Holy Spirit.
These people shined a Light to us and others.
Now Peter says…
And we have the word
of the prophets made more certain,
and you will do well
to pay attention to it,
as to a light shining
in a dark place,
until the day dawns
and the morning star rises in your hearts.
2 Peter 1:19
All the prophets spoke and wrote is clearer,
more certain now…
Because Jesus became
the more sure Word of Prophecy.
Peter is also
encouraging us…
To pay more attention as to a light shining in a dark place,
until the day dawns
and the morning star rises in your hearts.
You and I are like the prophets.
Ordinary people with one major difference…
The Morning Star rises in our hearts.
Every day the Holy Spirit carries
us along like He did the prophets.
We are receiving the Word of the Lord daily.
It does not mean we fully understand it
because it is not our word or opinion.
You and I are called to be prophets.
We, too, are to speak the Word of the Lord.
We are to share the Light, the Spirit
of God, is putting in our hearts.
Like 1 Thessalonians 2:4-6 says…
we speak as men
approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel.
We are not trying to
please men but God, who tests our hearts.
You know we never used flattery,
nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed —
God is our witness.
We were not looking for praise from men, not
from you or anyone else.
We should watch every word we speak.
Many of us would do well if we were slow
to speak, making sure our words line
up with the Word of the Lord.
If anyone speaks, he
should do it as
one speaking the very
words of God.
1 Peter
4:10-11
Don’t make it a mystery concerning
speaking the Word of the Lord.
Like the prophet Jeremiah said…
But if I say, "I
will not mention him or speak any more in his name,"
his word is in my
heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones.
I am weary of holding
it in; indeed, I cannot.
Jeremiah 20:9
When you realize the Holy Spirit is caring you
along, you will not be able to keep it to yourself.
We should be like Paul…
A man who preached
the Word of the Lord.
Preachers and prophets do the same thing…
“Speak the Word of the Lord”
At his appointed
season he brought his word
to light through the
preaching entrusted
to me by the command
of God our Savior.
Titus 1:3
The Spirit of God lights up our hearts
so that when we speak we would
be preaching and prophesying.
Entrusting in the appointed season
God will bring His Word to Light.
So if any of us speak…
Let us speak as the Spirit gives us utterance.
God wants His Light to shine through you.
