Light
When Light Becomes Fire
The Light of Israel will become a fire, their Holy One a flame;
in a single day it will burn and consume his thorns and his briers.
Isaiah 10:17
We should walk in the
Light in order to enjoy the Kingdom of God’s blessing
But we should also
not forget that the Light becomes a Fire
As we walk in the
Light, the Light of the Fire will consume the chaff and things in our life that
keep us from the Glory of the Kingdom of God
The Light of Israel
will become a Fire
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is
light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with
him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship
with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
1 John 1:5-7
The Light purifies
and the Fire destroys
Only a remnant, a few
will walk in the Light
Are you walking in
the Light?
Sadly for many
“The
Light of Israel will become a fire” Isaiah 10:17
When Light Becomes Fire
We know that the light of
the sun is actually a fire.
The heat of light has the ability to start fires.
California is known for its fires.
As the heat dries out the land
and the sun keeps back the rain…
The conditions for a destructive fire are set.
In no time at all a spark turns
into a fire that destroys acres…
Acres of trees, plants, homes, cars
and whatever else in in its path.
One year on our way to the Florida Keys
from the Tampa area, we could see dark skies.
It was so strange as it was a sunny day.
Then after driving for miles we realizes
the dark skies were caused by fire.
As we got to the Everglade,
we could see the fire
burning.
At one point the road was closed
as fire fighters tried to control
the flames coming across the road.
The light we had enjoyed in Tampa had
become a fire in the Everglades.
In Isaiah 10 we are told…
The Light of Israel
will become a fire,
their Holy One a
flame;
in a single day it
will burn and consume
his thorns and his
briers.
Verse 17
The same light that causes things to
grow and give us the ability to see
is the same that brings destruction.
If you live in an area of a forest
fire you will know what fear is.
Isaiah says although God promised Abraham
his seed would be as the sands of the sea, a Fire
was coming that would only leave a remnant.
In Hebrews 12 we see the words “once more”.
Letting us know that there have been warnings
that God will shake everything that can be shaken…
The words "once
more" indicate the
removing of what can
be shaken —
that is, created
things —
so that what cannot be
shaken may remain.
Verse 27
Verse 28 does give us hope…
Therefore, since we
are receiving
a kingdom that cannot
be shaken,
let us be thankful,
and so worship God
acceptably with reverence and awe
acceptably with reverence and awe
But sadly the scriptures tell us
only a remnant or few will remain.
Hebrews 12 ends with the reason why…
For our "God is a Consuming Fire.
Verse 29
This all sounds scary…
“God is a Consuming Fire”
But I am not sure you can
scare people into heaven.
People can be scared to do something
because they might suffer consequences…
But I am not sure
that changes the heart.
But there is a strong warning.
Fear has torment and is a
deterrent but “the remnant”…
“the few” are the ones who respect the Light.
Yes, God is a Consuming Fire.
Those who respect the Light will
understand the Fire to be a good thing
understand the Fire to be a good thing
as it burns away the things in
our lives that are not eternal.
Those who respect the Light will have
a desire to live in the Kingdom of God.
In that Kingdom they are thankful, and…
“worship God acceptably with reverence and awe”
These are the ones who will be
saved from the Consuming Fire.
There is a warning…
Peter says the earth
will be consumed with Fire.
We should focus on the Glory of the Light.
We should walk in the Light in order to
enjoy the Kingdom of God’s blessing.
But we should also not forget
that the Light becomes a Fire.
As we walk in the Light, the Light of the
Fire will consume the chaff and things in
our life that keep us from the
Glory of the Kingdom of God.
The Light of Israel will become a Fire…
This is the message we
have heard from him and declare to you:
God is light; in him there is no darkness at
all.
If we claim to have
fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness,
we lie and do not live
by the truth.
But if we walk in the
light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the
blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
1 John 1:5-7
The Light purifies and the Fire destroys.
Only a remnant, a few will walk in the Light.
Are you walking in the Light?
Sadly for many…

Scripture Reading
Isaiah 10:17-24 NIV
17 The Light of Israel will become a fire,
their Holy One a flame;
in a single day it will burn and consume
his thorns and his briers.
18 The splendor of his forests and fertile fields
it will completely destroy,
as when a sick man wastes away.
19 And the remaining trees of his forests will be so few
that a child could write them down.
20 In that day the remnant of Israel,
the survivors of the house of Jacob,
will no longer rely on him
who struck them down
but will truly rely on the LORD,
the Holy One of Israel.
21 A remnant will return, a remnant of Jacob
will return to the Mighty God.
22 Though your people, O Israel, be like the sand by the
sea,
only a remnant will return.
Destruction has been decreed,
overwhelming and righteous.
23 The Lord, the LORD Almighty, will carry out
the destruction decreed upon the whole land.
24 Therefore, this is what the Lord, the LORD Almighty,
says:
Hebrews 12:25-29 NIV
25 See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they
did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less
will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven? 26 At that time his
voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, "Once more I will shake
not only the earth but also the heavens."
27 The words "once more" indicate the removing of what can be
shaken — that is, created things — so that what cannot be shaken may remain.
28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot
be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and
awe, 29 for our "God is a consuming fire."
