Light Armor of Light

Light
Armor of Light

Armor has two main functions
Armor gives protection
The Armor of Light keeps the temptations of darkness away for you
Armor gives hope
The Armor of Light gives hope to people living in darkness
The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the Armor of Light.
Like a candle in a room it gives light to everything around it
No soldier wearing Armor of Light will be hidden
Is your Armor full of Light?

Armor of Light

Darkness and sin go together.

Most of us do not want our sin to be revealed.

We live in a world of sin and darkness

For the most part we love the cover of darkness.

The darkness can make us sleepy.

Like little children when they get tired they get cranky.

When we are not alert we become susceptible to sin.

Romans 13 reminds us to remember the time.

Our salvation is closer than it
was when we first believed.

Certainly our salvation is closer than when
the time of the Book of Romans was written.

In Romans 13:13 it says…

Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness,
not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.

The darkness in the time of the
Book of Romans is much like today.

With such popularity of sin, there becomes
a relaxed attitude where darkness is accepted.

Just like the time when the Book of Romans
was written we too live in a dark world.

We are reminded to…

behave decently, as in the daytime”

Romans 13 gives us some great advice in how
to keep awake; how to walk in our salvation.

Verse 12 says…

The night is nearly over; the day is almost here.
So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.

So many are looking at the world’s condition
and say the “Day of the Lord” is coming soon.

There needs to be an awareness and urgency
to put aside deeds of darkness.

As much as we know this change is not always easy.

That is why here in Romans 13:12 it says…

“put on the Armor of Light”

Think about it…

What if you had an Armor
of Light you were wearing?

What would that look like?

You would stand out.

I was working in the bathroom
of a vacant rental house.

I heard a voice of a woman and when I look
she was standing at the bathroom door.

Her conversation seemed innocent, yet I
felt uncomfortable that she was not there to talk.

I quickly turned the conversation
around to her need for Christ.

As I let my Light Shine, this woman
confessed her need for God in her life.

The Light of my Armor kept the
darkness of sin away and she knew I
had something more wonderful than
the darkness she lived and worked in.

I have enjoyed wearing the title of Pastor.

It was a Light that changed every room I walked in.

At times even with Christians, I could not
become as close of a friend because of my Light.

I love people, I love friends, but the Armor of Light
can cause people to have a more distant relationship.

When I worked at Jeep, I was a friend of sinners.

At times we would take walks through
the plant and one of them would say…

“Bill I think you should go back”.

That was their way of telling me they were
about to do something, like stealing, that they
knew I could not do because of the Armor of Light.

Wearing the Armor of Light will
keep darkness away from you.

It will cause you to stand out
to your enemies and others.

Wearing the Armor of Light is not
a Light that has to be offensive,
like shining a light in someone’s eyes.

Wearing the Armor of Light is like…

A candle in a dark room,
you can see everything around it.

Many things that live in the dark
will run away from your Light because
they are only comfortable in the dark.

You will also find when you are wearing the
Armor of Light, that people will feel safe around
you even if they are living in darkness.

They will come into your Light,
giving them opportunity to discover
the joy of living in the Light.

I love being a business man,
a family man, a community member…

Without the title of Pastor where people
expect me to wear the Armor of Light.

Because when people see regular people,
like you and me, wearing the
Armor of Light, they get refreshed.

They get the opportunity to see the world
with the Lights on and the Security and Peace
we have because our armor is the Armor of Light.

There is a battle between light and darkness.

So make sure you put on the Armor of Light.

Living in the Light will keep temptation away.

Living in the Light will give hope to others.

Scripture Reading

Romans 13:11-14 NIV

11 And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. 12 The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. 14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.
