Zeal and Knowledge

"Save Yourselves From This Corrupt Generation"

By William M. Self, Sr.

Everybody has ideas of God and what is right

But do you have the right ideas?

What are your ideas based on?

The Knowledge of God?

Zeal and Knowledge

Everybody has ideas about God.

Ideas about what is right.

Every culture has a standard of what is right and what is wrong…

Governments, social groups, families, even crime organizations.

The Church is not the only place with ideas of right and wrong.

The ideas of right and wrong are constantly changing.

The speed limit on Angola Road used to be 35 now it is 45.

In Michigan, you used to be able to snag
dying salmon, now you can be fined.

No wonder many are saying there are no absolutes.

What is right for you may not be right for me.

Human nature is to make a law out of what we think is right…

Forcing everyone to conform to one idea.

It is amazing how excited or zealous we
get about our ideas of what is right.

When we see something we think is wrong,
we shout, protest, and maybe even get violent.

Romans 10:2 says…

“I can testify about them that they are zealous for God,
but their zeal is not based on knowledge.”

We can get very zealous about our ideas of God.

There are a lot of well-meaning people who do good and go to church.

People who play their Christian music so everyone can hear...

But have little Knowledge of God.

They know what makes them feel good,
but not the Knowledge of God.

Knowing God is to know what is right…

Because God is perfect.

The Bible says to prove all things and hold fast that which is good.

When the Spirit moves on you, you will have an emotional zeal.

We must remember zeal is not the evidence of truth…

What is right.

Knowing God is to know His Word.

His Word is Truth.

That is the evidence of what is right.

Don’t base your life on what makes you feel good.

Base it on who God is.

Scripture Reading

Acts 2:37-42 TLB

"Brothers, what should we do?"

38 And Peter replied, "Each one of you must turn from sin, return to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; then you also shall receive this gift, the Holy Spirit. 39 For Christ promised him to each one of you who has been called by the Lord our God, and to your children and even to those in distant lands!"

40 Then Peter preached a long sermon, telling about Jesus and strongly urging all his listeners to save themselves from the evils of their nation. 41 And those who believed Peter were baptized-about three thousand in all! 42 They joined with the other believers in regular attendance at the apostles' teaching sessions and at the Communion services and prayer meetings.

Romans 1:28 NIV
Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God
"Save yourselves from this corrupt generation."

Romans 10:1-2 NIV
Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge.
