They Knew God

"Save Yourselves From This Corrupt Generation"

By William M. Self, Sr.

They knew God

“Since what may be known about God is plain to them,
because God has made it plain to them.
For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities
— his eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen,
being understood from what has been made,
so that men are without excuse.”
 Romans 1:19-20

Provoke God’s presence by glorifying and praising Him
Romans 1:21

They Knew God

“Since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities — his eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.” Romans 1:19-20

We can make God very complicated.

Yet, God says…

What is to be known about God is clear.

God had made the knowledge of Himself very plain.

Creation shows the power of God.

Although God is invisible, His qualities
are understood by what He has made.

It is this fact that makes us all without excuse.

Everybody knows God.

The path of ignoring or rejecting God is also very clear.

It is very frightening to know God
gives people over to their desires.

God removes His blessings and lets
people make their own choices.

I love America, but the removal of God is
leading us down a path of destruction.

Romans 1 tells us…

The path will be filled with sexual immorality.

The legalization of men marrying men and
women marrying women is increasing.

The scripture also says those who deny God will
worship the creation rather than the Creator God.

Today, laws and enforcement to protect animals and nature are
getting stronger than the laws and enforcement to protect humanity.

How do we save ourselves from a corrupt generation?

Paul says in Romans 1…

“I am not ashamed of the gospel”

The Gospel, the Good News of salvation
and righteousness, is what we believe in.

We can never allow shame to diminish our faith in the Gospel.

The thing those who deny God fail to do,
is glorify God and give Him praise.

Every provision God has given us, through the
things He has created, should prompt us to praise Him.

Though others choose to deny God, God will
not forget those who live a life of praise to Him.

God will not forget this nation who evangelized the world,
fed the needy and came to the rescue of every tragedy.

It is not a time to give up and complain.

It is a time to cry out to God and take a stand.

God’s people will be triumphant.

Scripture Reading

Acts 2:37-44 NIV

What shall we do?"
38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off — for all whom the Lord our God will call."

40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation." 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles.

Romans 1:18-23 NIV
The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities — his eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.

Romans 1:16-17 NIV
I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written:
"The righteous will live by faith."

Romans 1:21 NIV
For although they knew God, they neither glorified
him as God nor gave thanks to him
