"Save Yourselves
From This Corrupt Generation"
By William M. Self, Sr.
Choice Out
Empowering of God / This Generation
David cried out…
“Do
not cast me from your presence
or
take your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore
to me the joy of your salvation
and
grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”
David was the successor to Saul.
The anointing of God, the empowering
of the Spirit of God was upon Saul.
David saw the Spirit of God depart from Saul.
“Now
the Spirit of the Lord had departed from Saul,
and an evil spirit from the Lord tormented
him.” 1 Samuel 16:14 NIV
God said to Samuel the prophet…
"How
long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel?
Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of
Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king." 1 Samuel 16:1 NIV
As God took His Spirit from Saul,
He gave it to David.
This same thing is going on today.
God is pouring out His Spirit upon all those
who call upon the name of the Lord.
In contrast, God is rejecting those who turn from Him.
Peter on the Day of Pentecost clearly
explains the fulfilling of God’s promise.
The promise God made to Joel…
"'In
the last days, God says,
I
will pour out my Spirit on all people.”
Not just kings like Saul and David, but all people.
Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord
shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Peter tells us that God’s promise to
pour out His Spirit upon all flesh.
“You
will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your
children and for all who are far off — for all whom the Lord our God will
call."
As long as there are people on earth, God will be
looking for those He can pour out His Spirit upon…
Not only salvation, but the power of God.
But the promise comes with a warning…
"Save
yourselves from this corrupt generation."
Our prayer should be like David’s…
“Restore
to me the joy of your salvation
and
grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”
Don’t let the corruption of this generation empty you of the
Spirit of God.
But.. “Instead, be filled with the Spirit.” Ephesians 5:18 NIV
Scripture Reading
Psalm 146:10
NIV
The Lord
reigns forever,
your God, O
Zion, for all generations.
Acts 2:17 NIV
"'In
the last days, God says,
I will pour
out my Spirit on all people.
Acts 2:37-41
NIV
When the people heard this, they were cut to
the heart and
said to
Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?"
38 Peter
replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you,
in the name of Jesus Christ for the
forgiveness of your sins.
And you will
receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39 The
promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off —
for all whom the Lord our God will call."
40 With many
other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them,
"Save yourselves from this
corrupt generation."
41 Those who
accepted his message were baptized,
and about
three thousand were added to their number that day.
1 Samuel
16:14 NIV
Now the Spirit of the Lord had departed from
Saul,
and an evil
spirit from the Lord tormented him.
Psalm
51:11-12 NIV
Do not cast me from your presence
or take your
Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore
to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me
a willing spirit, to sustain me.
