Contempt

"Save Yourselves From This Corrupt Generation"

By William M. Self, Sr.

When my ideas become greater than God’s

I am in Contempt

That is not bright

Contempt

Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools....
They exchanged the truth of God for a lie....
Furthermore, since they did not think it
worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God,
he gave them over to a depraved mind,
to do what ought not be done.
Romans 1:22, 25a, 28 NIV

Contempt… “the feeling that a person or a thing is
beneath consideration, worthless, or deserving scorn.”

God has revealed who He is through…

The things He has created, through the scriptures and

Even personal revelation that there is a God…

And by setting eternity in our minds and our hearts.

But the revelation God has given may not
fit our notions of how we think He ought to be.

So many have rejected the knowledge
of God and followed their own ideas, detached
from the Scriptures and the Body of Christ.

We, who claim to be Christians often see
ourselves exempt from many scriptures.

But as Christians, we are still capable of
doing the same things unbelievers do.

We think because we are covered in the Blood and
are active in the faith, God will look at us differently.

We can become so familiar with God
we think He should fit our notions.

 When this happens, theology
(the study of God) is challenged.

People go off their own ways.

When our notions and ideas detach us from
the truth and each other, we become contemptuous.

We exchange the truth of God for a lie.

Too often, we come to know Christ and
embrace His love and forgiveness.

We like the worship music and the get-togethers…

The encouraging messages.

But our old notions and ideas get
blended into our new life with Christ.

The scriptures warn us that our
 thoughts are not God’s thoughts.

This is why we are to put on the mind of Christ.

As it says….

"For who has known the mind of the Lord
that he may instruct him?" 1 Corinthians 2:16 NIV

Romans 1 was not written for the other guy.

It is a reminder to all of us to submit to
the knowledge of God and bring our
own ideas into submission of His Word.

Scripture Reading

Acts 2:40-41 NIV
"Save yourselves from this
corrupt generation."

Romans 1:28-29 New Living
