In the Beginning was Blessing

The Blessing

By William M. Self, Sr.

God blessed and said be fruitful and increase

Are you reproducing the blessing?

In the Beginning was Blessing

The first blessing we see in
scripture is in Genesis 1:22.

It was the 5th day of creation.

God blessed the creatures in the waters and
in the air, and reading the next few verses
I think probably, the land creatures.

Then again, maybe He did not bless
the dog or cat that gets in my garbage.

On the 6th day, God blessed man.

The words are identical for the
blessing on the 5th and 6th day.

“God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful
and increase in number and fill…”

The blessing came with “fruitfulness and increase”.

Where creatures were to fill their domain, man
was not only to fill the earth, but to rule over it.

To be blessed… is to be favored by God.

Therefore, blessing and grace are the same thing.

God’s blessing came with a command…

 "Be fruitful and increase”
A Blessing… “is the infusion of something
 with holiness, spiritual redemption, divine
will, or one’s hope or approval” Wikipedia

All the water, all the air, all the land
was to be filled with God’s blessing.

Blessed creatures are fruitful and they increase.

The blessing of God, or the grace,
favor of God, is the bases of fruitfulness
and increase in our lives and the earth.

Too often, we want
increase without the blessing.

What we must remember is blessing
is the infusion of holiness, spiritual
redemption and divine will.

Our endeavors to be fruitful and
increase must line up with God’s will.

We must also remember God’s
blessing requires our response.

Everything that is truly fruitful and
increases started with God’s blessing.

In the beginning, was God’s blessing.

Let’s go back to the beginning…

God’s blessing and favor
and build from there.

Scripture Reading

Genesis 1:20-23 NIV
And God said, "Let the water teem with living creatures,
and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky."
21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and
moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and
every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
22 God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and increase in number and
fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth."
23 And there was evening, and there was morning — the fifth day.

Genesis 1:27-28 NIV
So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.

28 God blessed them and said to them,
"Be fruitful and increase in number;
fill the earth and subdue it.
Rule over the fish of the sea
and the birds of the air
and over every living creature
that moves on the ground."
