The Blessing of the 7th Day

The Blessing

By William M. Self, Sr.

God blessed the 7th day

Jesus became the Lord of the 7th day

So be obedient to His will today and enter into His blessed rest

And get results that work

The Blessing of the 7th Day

All of us have had times in our lives
when it seems our days all run together.

Those times are usually called a rut.

Someone has said a rut is…
a grave with the ends knocked out

It is when every day of the week
seems to be the same old same old.

For many of us, change seems to be the answer,
but it is not long and life becomes business as usual.

There is a day of the week God put a special blessing on.

That day was the day of rest.

A day to take a break for the same old same old.

This blessed day of rest has remained to be a very special day.

Under the Old Testament covenant, any work
done on the 7th day had a punishment of death.

Everything God created was designed to be productive and to rest.

There is a natural balance, and if that balance
is not kept, it brings on premature death.

Jesus revealed in a New Covenant,
the spiritual understanding of the day of rest.

The days of work, the same old same old,
are the days of doing our own thing.

For some of us, doing our own
thing is a life of complacency.

For others, it is a life of constant change.

But the end results, is an unfulfilled life.

“There is a way that seems right to a man but the end is destruction.”

The Bible tells us there is a rest we can come into every day.

The rest comes as we hear the voice of God
and become obedient to what we hear.

It is a great idea to take one day a week and stop what you are
doing to refocus on God and let your body and mind rest.

But there is a rest for every day of the week.

Jesus said He is Lord of the Sabbath…Lord of rest.

When we start our day with Jesus as Lord,
we look to Him every morning for the
way He wants us to live our day.

We enter into the blessing of the 7th day rest every day…

When we take on the words of Christ
“Not my will but Your will be done”.

We make Him Lord and life becomes rewarding
and God will bless the rest.

Scripture Reading

Genesis 2:2-3 NIV
By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

Hebrews 4:1-7 NIV
Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. 2 For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith.   3 Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said,

"So I declared on oath in my anger,
'They shall never enter my rest.'"

And yet his work has been finished since the creation of the world. 4 For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: "And on the seventh day God rested from all his work."   5 And again in the passage above he says, "They shall never enter my rest."

6 It still remains that some will enter that rest, and those who formerly had the gospel preached to them did not go in, because of their disobedience. 7 Therefore God again set a certain day, calling it Today, when a long time later he spoke through David, as was said before:

"Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts."
