"Save Yourselves From This
Corrupt Generation"
By William M. Self, Sr.
Or, are you studying His Word
And charting your journey on it?
Retain the Knowledge of God
They did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of
God.
The “Knowledge of God”
is a map.
My friend Jeff and I went to Baldwin, Michigan to go Salmon
fishing.
We knew there were several good routes to get there.
His GPS, however, took us on a wild goose chase.
It failed us so many times, Jeff bought a large bulky book
of maps.
This map gave us the big picture and also the small details.
We were able to
travel dirt roads we would
have never considered to find access to the river.
A map is hundreds of peoples’ experiences put together.
If you ever drew a map for someone,
it probably was nowhere close to scale.
Yet, you had experienced getting to that destination many
times.
Those maps are helpful, but the maps put together over
years and centuries, give you incredible details that keep
you on track or get you back if you make a wrong turn.
The “Knowledge of God”
is a map, it is “Theology”.
Many people do not like to spend time reading maps.
In a way, maps are not the real thing…
They just tell us
about the real thing.
Many people have seen the Atlantic and enjoyed walking on
the beach
and seeing the waves come
to shore…
They had an experience.
Too often, we live our lives looking for an experience.
We base our quote “Christian”
life on experiences.
I, too, love the feelings of God’s presence.
But looking out over the Atlantic Ocean will not get me to
the Caribbean.
If I am going to make
the trip, I need to study the map.
The Bible is a map of hundreds who have had experiences with
God.
Their experiences have laid out details for life and the way
to eternal life.
The Knowledge of God, the study of His Word,
is a must for anyone
wanting to stay on course.
Sad to say, many are just looking for something that feels
good.
They get lost because they don’t follow the map.
The way to marriage, prosperity, joy, and peace becomes
perverted.
Ultimately, the way to God and eternal life are lost.
As we make our own trail and map, looking to
the pleasures of creation rather than the Creator…
Is the Knowledge of God worth retaining to you?
Let the map of His Word lead you to the real thing.
Scripture Reading
Acts 2:37-44
NIV
What shall
we do?"
38 Peter
replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus
Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the
Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are
far off — for all whom the Lord our God will call."
40 With many
other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, "Save yourselves
from this corrupt generation." 41 Those who accepted his message were
baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
42 They
devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the
breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe, and many
wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles.
Romans 1:28 NIV
28
Furthermore, since they did not think it
worthwhile to
retain the knowledge of God
