Blessing of a Friend

The Blessing

By William M. Self, Sr.

Kenn Gehrs pursued the heart of God like a man takes his next breath

Blessing is knowing a friend like that

Home with his Lord, October 29th, 2013

Blessing of a Friend

I think most of my days I am looking at tomorrow.

Thinking about what I have to do and what I need.

When looking at tomorrow,
I am focused on what I do not have.

Yesterday, October 29, 2013, a very dear
friend went home to be with the Lord.

We had known each other for over 35 years.

His death has caused me to look back
at my life and see how blessed I am.

Kenn Gehrs was a man who spent
his life at the feet of Jesus.

His dedication to prayer and study of the Word of
God was much more than a daily exercise.

It was like breathing, He never stopped.

He had received many wonderful insights from
the Lord as he flowed in the presence of the Lord.

Those insights he freely would encouraged others with.

We called him a prophet because when he spoke
to you, you sensed those words came from the Lord.

Many times when life got cloudy,
Kenn had a clear word from the Lord for me.

Kenn had a tremendous form of intelligent humor.

He was skilled in making clever and funny
remarks that brought joy to the heart.

Kenn faithfully fulfilled his marriage vows to his wife.

To know Kenn was to know Syliva.

They were one, a wonderful, loving couple.

They touched the lives of so many.

Kenn was one of the elders/prophets
in the church I helped pastor.

Ministering together was more than caring
for the people which he faithfully did so well.

As the Bible says… “as iron sharpens iron so
a man does his friend”… He sharpened me.

Today as I look back on my past,
I see how God has blessed me…

Blessed me with a friend and
 fellow servant of Jesus Christ.

This man who faithfully pursued the heart of God…

Changed my life.

Thank you, Lord, for Kenn Gehrs.
