Jesus’ Words in Red
Overwhelming Information
"I
have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear.
So you have questions
Can you imagine Jesus
telling you everything He knows?
That would be
information overload
So better than overload
God gave us His Spirit
To teach us all
things and bring back to our remembrance what we need
Thank you Jesus for
being sensitive to what we can bear
"I have much more to say to you, more than
you can now bear.”
Overwhelming Information
Information…
We all need it and
most of us want it.
Ever get too much information
coming at you all at once?
It is like going to a buffet and your stomach
can’t handle all your eyes thought looked good.
Teachers know that it is hard for most
people to handle more than three points.
That is why there are a lot of three point sermons.
When you tell a child to clean up their room you may
find them playing in the room rather than cleaning it.
Why? Because they are
overwhelmed.
But if you tell them to pick up one toy at a
time and put it away, they can get the job done.
As an adult, I look at my garage and become
overwhelmed and put off organizing till later.
When we get too much information
at one time we become overwhelmed.
It can become a source of
frustration and depression.
I used to use this verse
in marriage counseling…
"I have much more to say to you,
more than you can now bear.”
Husbands can dump some
heavy loads on their wives.
The husband who typically reasons things out,
can be insensitive to
his wife if he doesn’t
take into consideration she will typically
process the information emotionally.
Information can overload our thoughts
and feelings for both the man and woman.
The other day I was working on a
porch of one of my rental houses.
On the pouch next door a daughter about
30 years old was telling her father play by
play events of her life on resent days.
The daughter finally took a
breath and went into the house.
The father got up came over to the side of the porch
closest to me and asked me if I had any daughters.
That dad was overwhelmed
with too much information.
Can you imagine being Jesus and
wanting to tell you everything He knows?
You might say you want to know everything,
but be honest you
can’t handle it.
There is no way Jesus could have
told the disciples everything He knew.
There was no way He could tell them
of all the future events of their lives.
And now He is getting ready to go to the Father.
So Jesus says…
"I have much more to say to you,
more than you can now bear.”
Jesus knew the disciple would need more information.
When you look at the questions from the
disciples in Jesus’ final discourse, you will
see the disciples had questions.
They had information they could not process.
Jesus, the teacher and prophet, had
filled the disciples’ minds to the max.
If Jesus was leaving, how would they get
the answers and direction they would need
to carry out the mission Jesus gave them?
The answer is the Holy Spirit.
“But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit,
whom the Father will send in my name,
will teach you all things and will remind
you of everything I
have said to you.
John 14:26
It is wonderful to know the teaching and remindings
continues even after Jesus went to be with the Father…
“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes,
he will guide you into all truth.
He will not speak on his own;
he will speak only what he hears,
and he will tell you what is yet to come.”
We have the Holy Spirit to give us all the
information we need and when we need it.
There has been a concern over the
past 2 years I have had to deal with.
As I look back on the time line I can see
there is no way I would have been able to
understand how it would all work out.
The adjustments in my life that were necessary
to get me to the goal had to be a process.
When I saw the work of the Holy Spirit…
I began to have more peace even
though I could not see the outcome.
I believe it is important that we talk to
the Holy Spirit and pray in the spirit.
When you are face to face with a person and you
are listening to their voice, you can pick up their spirit.
But Jesus left His disciples and they, as well as us,
have to learn to connect and to listen to the Holy Spirit.
Jesus never meant our
relationship
with the Holy Spirit to be wired.
The Holy Spirit will not say
anything different than God’s Word.
How wonderful it is that
God knows what we can bear.
When Jesus walked with the disciples,
He was always imparting information.
Now you and I have the same benefit of the Holy Spirit
imparting the information we need on a daily bases
and having Him bring back to our remembrance
what we need when we need it.
If you want to increase your
ability of hearing the Holy Spirit…
Then spend time reading God’s Word and
ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes.
Scripture Reading
John 16:12-15 NIV
12 "I have much more to say to
you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he
will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only
what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will bring glory
to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. 15 All that
belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from
what is mine and make it known to you.
