Jesus’ Words in Red
In His Gory
I want
those you have given me to be with me where I am
We should not take
this prayer of Jesus too lightly
Jesus’ desire that
those that belong to Jesus would be where He is
To be where He is to
see His Glory
Glory Jesus has had
before creation
Let us responded to
Jesus’ prayer and spend time with Him NOW
Time in His Word
Time in Prayer
Time in Praise and Worship
Let’s not only see
His Glory, let’s be His Glory
So that when we
depart, Heaven will not be a strange and foreign land
In His Glory
We should not take this
prayer of Jesus too lightly.
Jesus’ desire that those that belong
to Jesus would be where He is.
To be where He is to see His Glory.
Glory, Jesus has had before creation.
In Luke 9, we find three of Jesus’
disciples get a glimpse of the Glory.
Jesus has just asked the disciples…
Who do you say He I am?
Peter says…
You are the Christ.
Jesus tried to reveal His purpose as the Christ, that He
would be killed and in three days rise from the dead.
Peter rebuked Jesus and Jesus said to Peter…
“Get behind me Satan”.
As Jesus is trying to explain His
purpose and His
kingdom, He says…
“I tell you the truth,
some who are standing
here will not taste death before
they see the kingdom of God."
Luke 7:27
About eight days after
Jesus said this,
he took Peter, John
and James with him and
went up onto a
mountain to pray.
Luke 7:28
Why did Jesus only take Peter, James and John?
I don’t know, but Jesus did say…
Some who are standing here will not taste
death before they see the kingdom of God."
These three disciples saw Jesus
appear in His glorious spender.
The appearance of his
face changed, and his clothes became
as bright as a flash
of lightning. 30 Two men, Moses and Elijah,
31 appeared in
glorious splendor, talking with Jesus.
Luke 7:29-31
Moses and Elijah were talking
about Jesus’ departure.
They were looking forward to
the fulfillment of the Messiah…
The One who would deliver
His people from their sins.
Moses represented the law.
Moses, the man who had a mountaintop
experience where his face shone.
Moses’ departure was unique,
he died on a mountain
and God buried Him.
Elijah represented the prophets.
Elijah also had a unique departure from earth…
He was carried to heaven,
without dying, in a chariot of fire.
Jesus’ unique departure, had angels guard
His tomb and then after His resurrection,
He ascended bodily into heaven.
Peter meant well, but he put Jesus on the
same level as Moses and Elijah.
When he wanted to build a
tabernacle for each one of them…
God the Father interrupted Peter.
While he was speaking, a cloud appeared and
enveloped them,
and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. 35 A voice came
from the cloud, saying,
"This is my Son,
whom I have chosen; listen to him."
36 When the voice had
spoken, they found that Jesus was alone.
Jesus stands alone.
"This is my Son,
whom I have chosen; listen to him."
We read of the voice from heaven
at the time Jesus was baptized.
“This is my beloved Son with
whom I am well
pleased”
Matthew 3:17
Jesus’
prayer is not only that those
who
belong to Him are with Him…
But
that we see His Glory.
And to see my glory, the glory you have given me
because you loved me before the creation of the world.
Glory: honor, praise, and worship
It is hard to believe Peter, James and John
were sleepy when they saw Jesus in His glory.
But we, too, often are too tired
to spend time with Jesus.
Although Peter meant well by
wanting to build earthly tabernacles…
We, too, can get a glimpse of heaven and
be no earthly good or heavenly good.
The Glory Jesus wants you and I
to see is the Love of the Father.
This love is so great that Jesus
sits at the right hand of God…
On the throne in heaven.
Ruling over everything.
Because the Father has given all things to Him.
And being found in
appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to
death —
even death on a cross!
9 Therefore God
exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name
that is above every name,
10 that at the name of
Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth
and under the earth,
11 and every tongue
confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God
the Father.

Scripture Reading
John 17:24 NIV
24 "Father, I want those you
have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory,
the glory you have
given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.
Luke 9:27-36 NIV
27 I tell you the truth, some who
are standing here will not taste death
before they see the kingdom of
God."
28 About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter,
John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray. 29 As he was
praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright
as a flash of lightning. 30 Two men, Moses and Elijah, 31 appeared in glorious
splendor, talking with Jesus. They spoke about his departure, which he was
about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem. 32 Peter and his companions were very
sleepy, but when they became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men
standing with him. 33 As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to him,
"Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters — one
for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah." (He did not know what he was
saying.)
34 While he was speaking, a cloud appeared and enveloped
them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. 35 A voice came from the
cloud, saying, "This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him." 36
When the voice had spoken, they found that Jesus was alone. The disciples kept
this to themselves, and told no one at that time what they had seen.
