Jesus’ Words in Red
The Loving Work of the Spirit
Unless I
go away, the Counselor will not come to you
The Holy Spirit will
always keep the focus on Jesus
We should be watching
and praying that we see the work of the Spirit around us
We should also look for
the Spirit to confirm the Word of God we speak
We don’t have to wait
for the Spirit
The Spirit is already
at work convicting the world of sin,
righteousness, and
judgment
We need to open our
spiritual eyes and work with Him
The Holy Spirit is
the Counselor to help the world in regards to our
sin, righteousness
and judgment
And He points to
Jesus
The Loving Work of
the Spirit
What is the Holy Spirit going to do when He comes?
We first need to recognize that the Holy Spirit
has come just as
Jesus said He would.
We see the Spirit poured out on the believers in Acts 2.
It was the time of Pentecost and God fearing
people from many other places, speaking different
languages, saw the Holy Spirit come on the believers.
They were amazed to see the Spirit enabled
them to speak their language and the
words they heard were praises to God.
Peter stood up and explained.
In doing so he shares about Jesus.
Peter told them Jesus conquered death.
And he told them they are
the ones who put Jesus to death.
At this point we see the
work of the Holy Spirit.
When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in
regard to sin and righteousness and judgment:
in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me;
The people in Acts 2 were
convicted by the Holy Spirit.
“When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to
Peter
and the other
apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?" Acts 2:37
“They were cut to the
heart”
The Holy Spirit works on the heart of people.
We can educate them but the Holy Spirit
takes the message of Jesus to the heart.
Recently, in one week, I had two people come
to me that I have been praying for.
Both came telling me they had an experience
where they felt a spirit come on them.
The experience was so powerful, yet they did
not understand what had happened to them.
They came to me because
they know of my faith in God.
I told them the experience was from God
and He was wanting to reveal Jesus to them.
I shared with them the story of the boy Samuel
when he thought he heard Eli calling him.
Eli instructed the boy Samuel the next time
he heard the voice to say here I am Lord.
I encouraged them to go to prayer that night
and say here am I
Jesus what do you want.
Sin is a problem and sometimes we focus on
"A" sin or people feel the Holy Spirit, the conviction
of "A" sin, and maybe
stop that sin.
But the Holy Spirit focuses on "the
sin of not putting faith in Jesus".
As we see people concerned about their
wrongs we need to realize the Holy Spirit is
using that to lead them to faith in Jesus.
“in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me;”
The second work of the Holy Spirit is…
“in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the
Father,
where you can see me no longer;”
Righteousness, the Holy Spirit’s work is
more than encouraging people to be good.
The Spirit’s Work is to reveal the righteousness of
Jesus and the right it gives Him to be with the Father.
Jesus is the only person who lived a life of
sinless perfection and he now sits at the Father’s
right hand interceding on our behalf.
John 3:13; 1 Timothy 2:5
The third work of the Spirit is…
“in regard to judgment, because the prince
of this world now stands condemned.”
Jesus conquered the enemy of death.
He defeated Satan.
Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their
humanity so that by his death
he might destroy him who holds the power of death
— that is, the devil— Hebrews
2:14
The Holy Spirit will always
keep the focus on Jesus.
We should be watching and praying that
we see the work of the Spirit around us.
We should also look for the Spirit
to confirm the Word of God we speak.
We don’t have to wait for the Spirit.
The Spirit is already at work convicting
the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment.
We need to open our spiritual
eyes and work with Him.
The Holy Spirit is the Counselor to help the world
in regards to our sin, righteousness and judgment.
And He point to Jesus.
When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in
regard to sin and righteousness and judgment:
9 in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me;
10 in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the
Father,
where you can see me no longer;
11 and in regard to judgment, because the prince
of this world now stands condemned.
Scripture Reading
John 16:1-11 NIV
16:1 "All this I have told you
so that you will not go astray. 2 They will put you out of the synagogue; in
fact, a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering a
service to God. 3 They will do such things because they have not known the
Father or me. 4 I have told you this, so that when the time comes you will
remember that I warned you. I did not tell you this at first because I was with
you.
5 "Now I am going to him who
sent me, yet none of you asks me, 'Where are you going?' 6 Because I have said
these things, you are filled with grief. 7 But I tell you the truth: It is for
your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come
to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8 When he comes, he will convict
the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 in regard
to sin, because men do not believe in me; 10 in regard to righteousness,
because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 11 and in
regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.
