Being Successful
Wisdom Regarding Riddles
Personal Position to Gain Understanding
Life is full of mystery
Questions that seem to have no answer
So why parables, sayings and riddles?
Because they make you think
They make you look deeper into a matter
It is not good enough to see the surface of an object
And make a judgment, you need to see the whole picture
Understanding does not come from a single sided view
We must be willing to move from our position to see the whole
picture
And in the final analyst
All understanding must
line up with the flawless Word of God
…for understanding proverbs and parables,
the sayings and riddles of the wise. Proverbs 1:6 NIV
Wisdom Regarding
Riddles
Personal Position to
Gain Understanding
One of the purposes of the Book of Proverbs
is to understand a proverb and sayings…
The words of the wise and their riddles.
Life is full of mystery…
Questions that seem to have no answer.
Jesus also used parables to speak to the people.
So why parables, sayings and riddles?
Because they make you think.
They make you look deeper into a matter.
It is not good enough to see the surface of an object
and make a judgment, you need to see the whole picture.
Understanding does not come from a single sided view.
We must be willing to move from our
position to see the whole picture.
Proverbs 30 gives us some of
the more picturesque riddles.
Agur is the one giving us these riddles.
But before you get into the riddles you
need to see what this man says about himself.
"I am the most
ignorant of men;
I do not have a man's
understanding.
I have not learned
wisdom,
nor have I knowledge
of the Holy One.
Proverbs 30:2-3
The second thing we see is his
quest for someone with the answers.
Who has gone up to heaven and come down?
Who has gathered up
the wind in the hollow of his hands?
Who has wrapped up the
waters in his cloak?
Who has established
all the ends of the earth?
What is his name, and
the name of his son?
Tell me if you know!
Proverbs 30:4 NIV
The third thing Agur says shows the perimeter,
the foundation, the answers of life must stand upon.
"Every word of God is flawless;
he is a shield to
those who take refuge in him.
Do not add to his words,
or he will rebuke you
and prove you a liar.
Proverbs 30:5-6 NIV
I think all of us have asked the question
WHY? or HOW?
Why do bad things happen?
How does the sun keep burning each day?
Life is full of mystery.
Only the wise who are willing to gain
understanding will find the answers.
Before you can address the riddles in the following verses
of Proverbs 30 or any other riddle, parable, or saying
we must address the three things Agur addressed.
Be humble starts with an open mind.
Realize no one has been to heaven
and back to give you the answers.
Third. every conclusion must rest on
or line up with every Word of God.
Great advice from a man who says
he is the “most ignorant of men”.
