Being Successful Being a Good Spouse The Virtuous Wife

Being Successful
Being a Good Spouse
The Virtuous Wife

The virtuous wife is a woman who develops skills

The skills that will make her husband and family successful

These skills will take a lot of sacrifice

But the person of virtue or valor is a person who does battle

Who lays down their life for others

That is what makes them great

So to the Virtuous Wife

Give her the reward she has earned,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
Proverbs 31:31

Being a Good Spouse
The Virtuous wife

Proverbs 31 captures the virtuous
or the woman of noble character.

The point is missed if we look at only what she does.

The point is who she is.

It is the strength of the inter character
that makes her a woman of valor.

If we take a good look at Proverbs we will find a
half chapter dedicated to the Virtuous Wife and
thirty chapters focused on making a man virtuous.

If the Book of Proverbs were addressing a daughter
rather than a son we would find the amount
of wisdom to the man and the woman reversed.

The ideal wife is…

Trustworthy
Proverbs 31:11

The husband can confidently entrust her with his income.

She does not squander the income but
uses it in a way that benefits them both.

Filled with enduring love
Proverbs 31:12

From the vows of the wedding day to the
end of life she is devoted to bring him good.

Skilled, developed abilities to make their home and family successful
Proverbs 31:13-15, 21-22

She has hard working hands.

She makes sure the family is eating healthy.

 She puts her responsibilities first.

 She is not a last minute person she is
prepared for the next season when it
comes because she knows it will come.

A woman of business
Proverbs 31:16, 24

If anything happened to her husband she would manage
because she knows how to buy and sell, she is industrious
and has been providing income to the family all along.

Compassionate to the less fortunate
Proverbs 31:20

Because she knows a hand out may not always be
the best way to help the poor, she reaches out with
strong arms and hands to help the poor get on their feet.

Strong in character and dignity
Proverbs 31:25

Like 1 Peter 3:3-5 the wise trust in God.

 She is clothed in faith even when she finds her
husband weak, she is confident God will provide.
  Pure in speech with wise council and kindness
Proverbs 31:26

She is the example of Ephesians 4:29…

“Does not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths,
but only what is helpful for building others up according to
their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”

 Diligent
Proverbs 31:27

There is not a matter of her household she does not see.

Every affair of the family, her husband, children,
servants; she knows what is effecting their lives.

She is not idle with her time, she is not a busy body but
diligently deals in wisdom with the affairs of the household.

A worshiper of the Lord
Proverbs 31:29-30

She excels to be nobler than others.

 She is charming and beautiful, but greater than these
things she fears the Lord, where the beginning of wisdom
and knowledge start and she praises the Lord.

She thanks God for who He is and for helping
her develop the skills of the virtuous woman.

There are things a wife does not want to be…

Quarrelsome, contentious, ill-tempered
Proverbs 21:9,19

Hateful
Proverbs 30:23

These things make it hard for a husband;
He will not desire to be around her.

The Virtuous Wife is a woman who develops skills.

The skills that will make her husband and family successful.

These skills will take a lot of sacrifice.

But the person of virtue or valor is a person who does battle.

Who lays down their life for others.

That is what makes them great.

So to the Virtuous Wife…

Give her the reward she has earned,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
Proverbs 31:31

Scripture Reading

 Proverbs 31:10-31 NIV

10 A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
11 Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.
12 She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
13 She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up while it is still dark;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her servant girls.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
19 In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
20 She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.
21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
22 She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
26 She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
27 She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
29 "Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all."
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
31 Give her the reward she has earned,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
