Marriage Choices What to Avoid
Choices right or wrong you
have to live with your choices.
Marriage is the second biggest choice you will make
in life next to choosing to become a Christ follower.
The Apostle Paul said it is better to not marry
but most cannot handle being unmarried.
Because so many cannot remain sexually pure,
they should marry
rather than have a live-in partner.
It is good for a man
not to marry. But since there is so much immorality,
each man should have
his own wife, and each woman her own husband.
1 Corinthians 7:1-2 NIV
For
most of us we should marry and
that
means choosing the right spouse.
A
good choice greatly enhances life.
But
a wrong choice can destroy a person from the inside out.
A wife of noble character is
her husband's crown,
but a disgraceful wife is
like decay in his bones.
Proverbs
12:4 NIV
A
mistake in the choice of a spouse cannot be easily corrected.
Despite
popular opinion, divorce is not the solution.
God
hates divorce and it may not be a
viable
option for the disciple of Christ.
Malachi 2:16;
Matthew 19:8,9
Even
when divorce is an option, if there are
children
your husband or wife will always be
the
father or mother (for better or for worse).
As
difficult as it might seem to a young
person
in earlier cultures parents arranged
the
marriage partner for their children.
It
might be good to note that God wants to
arrange
marriage by choosing the spouse.
Houses and wealth are
inherited from parents,
but a prudent wife is from
the LORD.
Proverbs
19:14 NIV
So
if you are looking for a spouse the closer you get to
God
the closer you will get to your life marriage partner.
So
how does a man find a good wife?
First
seek God’s help.
Don’t
place your priorities on looks alone.
Beauty
is skin deep and time has a way of changing it.
But
a woman who fears the Lord holds
inter
beauty that increases over time.
Charm is deceptive, and
beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the
LORD is to be praised.
Proverbs
31:30 NIV
A
woman who fears the Lord will
possess
the beginning of Wisdom.
Look
for a woman with discretion.
Like a gold ring in a pig's
snout
is a beautiful woman who
shows no discretion.
Proverbs
11:22 NIV
A
beautiful woman without intelligence
or
good taste is the object of ridicule
and
the dumb blond jokes.
A
man should look for a woman who will build a good home.
A
good home cannot be built without wisdom.
The wise woman builds her
house, but with
her own hands the foolish
one tears hers down.
Proverbs
14:1 NIV
Avoid
a contentious or argumentative woman.
A quarrelsome wife is like a
constant dripping on
a rainy day; restraining her
is like restraining
the wind or grasping oil with the hand.
Proverbs
27:15-16 NIV
The
right choice will make a man very happy.
He who finds a wife finds
what is good
and receives favor from the
LORD.
Proverbs
18:22 NIV
God
tells us what we should avoid and what
we
should look for in a wife or husband.
The
decision you make is for life - choose wisely.
