Being Successful
Simple Minded People do not have Common Sense
Wisdom asks the question…
“How long, O naive ones,
will you love being simple-minded?
And scoffers delight
themselves in scoffing
And fools hate knowledge?
Proverbs 1:22 NASB
Simple minded people are
concerned with today’s personal comfort
Wise people are concerned with
the Knowledge of Truth
Which makes life simple through
common sense
Simple Minded People do not have Common Sense
In Proverbs 1:22, Lady Wisdom asks a question…
]
“How long will you who are simple love your
simple ways?”
I have to confess I get tired of life being so complicated.
There is a tendency for all of us to ignore
our surroundings just to keep life simple.
Wisdom is rebuking the simple minded.
Wisdom requires us to repent of the easy road of simplicity.
Being simple minded is an unwillingness
to gain knowledge about a subject.
Being simple minded is letting your heart or emotions rule.
Being simple minded is not thinking things through for yourself.
Being simple minded is being so open
minded you accept what everyone says.
Simple minded people are on a path that leads to destruction.
Hosea 4:6 says…
“My people are
destroyed from lack of knowledge.
Because you have rejected knowledge”
Ignorance will destroy you.
What you don’t know can kill you.
Simple minded people don’t take time to search for knowledge.
There are many who search for knowledge
and also find they are on a path to destruction.
Wisdom tells us we cannot reject knowledge.
The knowledge Wisdom tells us to get always leads to truth.
In James 1:5, God says…
If anyone lacks wisdom he should
ask God and He will
give it liberally
Throughout Proverbs we are told to seek wisdom.
Seeking wisdom can seem very hard to find.
Like gold in the earth, small pieces of gold,
fractions of an ounce hidden in tons of earth.
Finding wisdom is like finding gold, you
have to know where to look and realize that
the world around you tries to keep it hidden.
James 1:17 says…
The wisdom that is
pure is from heaven.
When we seek our God in heaven, we will find wisdom.
The miners looking for gold do it every day.
Simple minded people pan for it on vacation.
Wisdom is found as we seek God’s Word every day.
A hard working gold miner over time
builds wealth that makes life more simple for him.
Unlike the gold miner, the person who finds wisdom can
spend his wisdom over and over again throughout his life.
For the people who seek wisdom, life becomes
simple because the knowledge they gain
causes the things in life to make common sense.
Simple minded people do not have common sense.
Scripture Reading
Proverbs 1:20 -33
20 Out in the open wisdom calls aloud,
she raises her voice in the public
square;
21 on top of the wall[fn] she cries out,
at the city gate she makes her speech:
22 “How long will you who are simple love your simple
ways?
How long will mockers delight in mockery
and fools hate knowledge?
23 Repent at my rebuke!
Then I will pour out my thoughts to you,
I will make known to you my teachings.
24 But since you refuse to listen when I call
and no one pays attention when I stretch
out my hand,
25 since you disregard all my advice
and do not accept my rebuke,
26 I in turn will laugh when disaster strikes you;
I will mock when calamity overtakes you—
27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm,
when disaster sweeps over you like a
whirlwind,
when distress and trouble overwhelm you.
28 “Then they will call to me but I will not answer;
they will look for me but will not find
me,
29 since they hated knowledge
and did not choose to fear the LORD.
30 Since they would not accept my advice
and spurned my rebuke,
31 they will eat the fruit of their ways
and be filled with the fruit of their
schemes.
32 For the waywardness of the simple will kill them,
and the complacency of fools will
destroy them;
33 but whoever listens to me will live in safety
and be at ease, without fear of harm.”
