Being Successful
The Shield of Success
He holds success in
store for the upright,
He is a shield to
those whose walk is blameless Proverbs 2:7
Being blameless and
upright does not mean you will not be attacked
Look at Job - Look
at Jesus
When you and I live
out the teachings of God we will need protection
We will need a
shield
God promises to
shield us when we live by faith in His teachings
We need to rely on
the shield of the Lord to be successful
The Shield of Success
There are many types of shields.
Most of the time we think of a shield of metal
held up by the arm and used in battle.
When working around machinery where sparks and
objects fly, you are going to want to wear a face shield.
When you get in your car you use a windshield.
The electric wires in your home are
shielded to protect you from shock.
Shields are for protection.
If you have a car, home, or business you need asset
protection insurance to shield you and your family.
Sticks and stones can break the
bones and words can crush the heart.
To be successful in life you need a shield –
you need protection.
Danger is around every corner.
Your spirit, soul, and body are vulnerable.
In Proverbs 2, the fear of the Lord gives us
wisdom, knowledge, understanding, and insight
And…
He
holds success in store for the upright,
He
is a shield to those whose walk is blameless
When we put into practice the wisdom,
knowledge,
understanding and insight we receive from
Him we become upright and blameless.
God says He will protect the
upright and blameless like a shield.
Trusting in the wisdom of God can make you vulnerable.
Therefore, it takes the shield of faith to believe
His wisdom is the best way to live life.
It is hard not to lean on our own understanding
and in all our ways acknowledge His
teachings and instructions for life.
Maybe that is why God repeats over and over
again His promise to be our shield in life.
The LORD is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him,
and I am helped; Therefore my heart exults, And with my song I
shall thank Him.
The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, My God, my
rock,
in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation,
my stronghold.
After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a
vision, saying,
"Do not fear, Abram, I am a shield to you; Your reward
shall be very great."
"Blessed are you, O Israel; Who is like you, a people saved
by the LORD,
Who is the shield of your help And the sword of your majesty!
So your enemies will cringe before you, And you will tread upon
their high places."
Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield.
For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD gives grace and
glory;
No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.
O Israel, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield.
Every word of God is tested; He is a shield to those who take
refuge in Him.
For our shield belongs to the LORD, And our king to the Holy One
of Israel.
But You, O LORD, are a shield about me, My glory, and the One
who lifts my head.
Being
blameless and upright does
not
mean you will not be attacked.

Scripture Reading
Proverbs 2
1 My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,
2 turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to
understanding—
3 indeed, if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding,
4 and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden
treasure,
5 then you will understand the fear of the LORD
and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the LORD gives
wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and
understanding.
7 He holds success in store for the upright,
he is a shield to those whose walk is
blameless,
8 for he guards the course of the just
and protects the way of his faithful
ones.
9 Then you will understand what is right and just
and fair—every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your
soul.
11 Discretion will protect you,
and understanding will guard you.
12 Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men,
from men whose words are perverse,
13 who have left the straight paths
to walk in dark ways,
14 who delight in doing wrong
and rejoice in the perverseness of evil,
15 whose paths are crooked
and who are devious in their ways.
16 Wisdom will save you also from the adulterous woman,
from the wayward woman with her
seductive words,
17 who has left the partner of her youth
and ignored the covenant she made before
God.[fn]
18 Surely her house leads down to death
and her paths to the spirits of the
dead.
19 None who go to her return
or attain the paths of life.
20 Thus you will walk in the ways of the good
and keep to the paths of the righteous.
21 For the upright will live in the land,
and the blameless will remain in it;
22 but the wicked will be cut off from the land,
and the unfaithful will be torn from it.
