Being Successful Choices Start With Desire

Being Successful
Choices Start With Desire

Desire –
“a strong feeling of wanting to have something
or wishing for something to happen”.

Choices start from the heart, the seat of our emotions.

It is a wish, want, aspiration, fancy, inclination, impulse.

This little word “desire” defines our hope and what we believe in.

It is from the desires in our heart we make every choice in life.

So fill your heart with delight for God.

And all He has created for you to take pleasure in.

In Genesis 2:9, God made all the trees pleasant to the sight;
the word pleasant is the word desire or desirable.

All the trees were desirable to look at and good for food.

It has always been God’s plan to fill our desires.

“Delight thy self in the lord and he will
give you the desires of your heart.”
Psalm 37:4

When the issues of desire and trees come
up again it is in Chapter 3 verse 9…

“And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food,
and that it was pleasant to the eyes,
and a tree to be desired to make one wise.”

There seems to be nothing wrong in this verse
until we remember what God said about not
desiring to eat of the Tree of Knowledge.

It even becomes clearer as we read the
dialog between Eve and the serpent.

“For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened,
and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

The desire to be like God, independent of Him.

Think about the two trees that stood out in the midst of the garden.

What if the conversation was under the Tree of Life.

What if Eve’s desire was for “life”.

What if Eve eats and gave to Adam the fruit of the Tree of Life.

Jesus said, I am the Way, the Truth and the “Life”.

Desire that is for God brings life.

Desire that seeks to be god brings death.

Therefore, the simple answer to making right choices is…

Have a desire for God.

Desire what God has created for you.

If your desires are for what you can create,
you will have a harvest of “Good and Evil”.

So fill your heart with delight for God and
all He has created for you to take pleasure in.

Scripture Reading

Genesis 2:9
The LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Genesis 3:1-7
Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’ ”
“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

Psalm 37:4
Take delight in the LORD,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
