Who is Your God?

The Secret Place

By William M. Self, Sr.

Peel back the layers of all you believe in

And who is at the core?

Who is Your God?

I remember one morning waking
up with a paralyzing thought…

“What if the God I was raised to
know from birth, was not God.”

Like finding out that Santa Claus
and the Easter Bunny are not real.

What if one of the other gods were the real
deal and I was in the wrong religion.

The terror was indescribable as I pondered
how I could ever find out the truth.

I remember being so afraid I would not get out of
bed for fear I could get in my car and die in an accident.

Then I would know, but not be prepared.

For 20 some years, I had been in church three
times a week almost every week of my life.

I was taught the Bible, sang the songs.

I never had a day I did not talk to this unseen God.

What made my nightmare so real is people following
other gods had as strong of a conviction as I did.

Someone had to be wrong!!! Was it me!!!

I remember a question came to me, the question
seemed to be from God…“Have I ever failed you?”

I answered No!  “Then follow me until I do.”

That was nearly 40 years ago
and I am still following Jesus.

Throughout those years, I have had the
layers of faith peeled back to the core.

It was at those times I looked in the
sky, and the things around me.

Then at my hand… I would watch every joint move.

With amazement, I had to say there has to be a Creator.

All created things are so wonderful and so good.

I said the Creator must be good.

From there, at the core of faith, I looked at the
evidence as to who this good Creator could be.

The only one that made any sense at all was
the One who died and rose from the dead…

JESUS

The core of my faith, the secret place, starts with Hebrews 11:6.

“Without faith it is impossible to please Him,
for he who comes to God must believe that He is,
and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

                                                                 Scripture Reading

 Psalm 91:1-2 NIV
91 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge
and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust."

Hebrews 11:6 NKJV
6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him,
for he who comes to God must believe that He is,
and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
