The Gold Standard
By William M. Self, Sr.
The black suit may be a symbol of wealth
But only the white robe of Righteousness
Will keep you cool as you draw near the Son
Rich People Wear White
The city of Laodicea was famous for their black wool.
This black wool was prized by the wealthy
around the known world at that time.
Their black wool clothing was
a status symbol of
wealth.
The black wool was worn by the men,
women and children of Laodicea.
Like all status symbols they lose
their meaning in a different context.
God addresses the core of their identity.
He tells them to buy from Him gold, to buy faith.
With that faith they could buy white garments.
Revelation 7 tells us these white garments
are the righteousness of the saints.
These white garments are white because they
are washed in the blood of the Lamb.
The focus of those wearing the white garment
is serving God who
sits on the throne.
Day and night the people wearing white
garments are worshiping God.
We are told those wearing white garments
have their needs met by God.
They never hunger or thirst.
Black absorbs the heat of the sun and can
make you very hot and uncomfortable.
But white keeps you cool in the heat of the sun.
God says those in His white garments
will not be scorched in the sun.
It does not matter how rich you
are or what status symbol you wear,
you cannot avoid sorrows in this life.
But those who buy the white garments
washed in the blood of the Lamb from
God will have all their tears wiped away.
When the Sun of Righteousness arises,
you will not be able to wear black.
To enter into the presences of the Lord and
all the provisions you will ever need…
You must wear white,
Garments washed in the blood of the Lamb.
Scripture Reading
Revelation
3:14-18 NIV
These are
the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God's
creation. 15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you
were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm — neither hot nor
cold — I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17 You say, 'I am rich; I have
acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are
wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. 18 I counsel you to buy from me gold
refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you
can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can
see.
Revelation
7:9-17 NIV
9 After this
I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count,
from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and
in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm
branches in their hands. 10 And they cried out in a loud voice:
"Salvation
belongs to our God,
who sits on
the throne, and to the Lamb."
11 All the
angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living
creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God,
12 saying:
"Amen!
Praise and glory
and wisdom
and thanks and honor
and power
and strength
be to our
God for ever and ever. Amen!"
13 Then one
of the elders asked me, "These in white robes —
who are
they, and where did they come from?"
14 I
answered, "Sir, you know."
And he said,
"These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have
washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 Therefore,
"they
are before the throne of God
and serve
him day and night in his temple;
and he who
sits on the throne will spread his tent over them.
16 Never
again will they hunger;
never again
will they thirst.
The sun will
not beat upon them,
nor any
scorching heat.
17 For the
Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd;
he will lead
them to springs of living water.
And God will
wipe away every tear from their eyes."
