The Garden

Planting of the Lord

By William M. Self, Sr.

One of the first things God did at creation was plant a garden

God takes delight in your green leaves and fruit

And He gives us the strength to bring Him glory

Even in our old age

The Garden

In the beginning, one of the things
God did was planted a garden.

“God made all kinds of trees to grow.”

“Trees that were pleasing to
the eye and good for food.”

Have you ever thought about
how much God loves gardens?

How much He loves plants?

Have you ever thought of how many
parables and scriptures talk about plants?

Plants bring pleasure to the Lord.

He loves to watch them…

“They are pleasing to the eye”.

There are plants that produce food
that are very exciting to the taste
 buds as well as nourishing.

The plant world is amazing.

Plants do not have eyes, they do not
have ears, and they do not have a brain.

Yet, they do some amazing things…

And they please God.

God tells us in Psalms 92 He wants
to plant you and I in His house…

Where we can flourish in His court yard.

God loves His older plants…

He says they stay fresh and green and
in their old age they still bear fruit.

Now that is good news.

Plants grow where they are put.

As we grow old,
we can bring glory to God.

We can bring pleasure to Him.

As we proclaim God’s goodness…

His righteousness and faithfulness to us.

You may feel like a plant going nowhere.

But when God sees your green
leaves and fruits of righteousness…

He is pleased.

Scripture Reading

Genesis 2:8-9 NIV
8 Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden;
and there he put the man he had formed.
9 And the Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground
— trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food.

Psalm 92:12-15 NIV
12 The righteous will flourish like a palm tree,
they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;
13 planted in the house of the Lord,
they will flourish in the courts of our God.
14 They will still bear fruit in old age,
they will stay fresh and green,
15 proclaiming, "The Lord is upright;
he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him."
