The Gold Standard
By William M. Self, Sr.
To see life better
God sells the very best
Revelation 3:18
Eye Salve
There are times when I am working with young
people I question
their common sense.
They seem to be unsure of how to do
things I may take for granted.
Then I remember being their age and the same insecurity.
As we get older, our natural eye sight decreases
but in some ways our
sight into life increases.
Our lives are made up from the decisions we make.
We make those decisions based on how we see life.
Adam and Eve saw that the forbidden fruit was good.
The lust of the eye separated them
from God and His provisions.
The wealthy people in Laodicea produced
the best eye salve in
antiquity.
Yet, God says they were blind.
They were blind because the people and
the believers were satisfied with life.
They were satisfied with their spiritual condition.
They could not see God has so much more for them.
They could not see their spiritual poverty.
The Lord gave them a remedy…
Buy from Him eye salve.
What kind of eye salve could God offer us
that would help us see our spiritual condition?
What could change the way we see
life so we could see
the true riches.
David wrote about something that enlightened the eyes…
“The
precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is pure and
bright,
enlightening the eyes.” Psalm 19:8 AMP
James tells us the person who looks into the perfect law…
Looks at the Word of God like
a person looking into a mirror.
He sees the way it can change his life…
“Will be blessed”
What is your spiritual condition?
How concerned are you about your financial
condition and how much do you care
about your spiritual condition?
Maybe we all need to go to God
and buy some more eye salve.
Scripture Reading
Revelation
3:14-18 NIV
These are
the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God's
creation. 15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you
were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm — neither hot nor
cold — I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17 You say, 'I am rich; I have
acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are
wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. 18 I counsel you to buy from me gold
refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you
can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can
see.
Psalm 19:8 AMP
8 The
precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is pure and
bright, enlightening
the eyes.
James
1:22-25 NIV
22 Do not
merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23
Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who
looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and
immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But the man who looks intently into
the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting
what he has heard, but doing it — he will be blessed in what he does.
