The Secret Place
By William M. Self, Sr.
Ever wish you could escape and fly high above the clouds
Psalms 91 is the flight school for you
The Freedom of a Bird
Birds are amazing creatures.
Birds can dwell on land, water and under the water.
Their ability to fly makes them very unique.
Long before the airplane and the hot
air balloon, man has
dreamed of flying.
To see a bird take flight from danger or to
just soar above the trees and embrace the
big picture, has been
the envy of mankind.
To get a picture of Psalms 91, you have to
appreciate the amazing abilities of birds.
The Psalmist is looking for an escape beyond
the horizontal hindrances
of the world.
The first description the Psalmist
gives of God is Most
High.
Looking up into the heavens, he longs
for a shelter and dwelling place…
Above every worry and concern on earth.
To be able to get a view of life as God sees it.
You can clearly see he is thinking like a bird…
“Surely he will save you
from the fowler's snare.”
“Surely” is a word
of guarantee.
The fowler does not put his traps in plain view.
The traps are hidden around
the places birds eat, and live.
The fowler’s snares are intimately
connected with secrecy.
It may look like God’s provision, but
its enticement leads to destruction.
Feathers have many functions for a bird.
Birds use them to fly, but they cannot
stay in flight forever, they must land.
When they do land, the feathers control
temperatures by trapping air next to their bodies.
It is in this controlled environment
the Psalmist takes cover…
As a young bird very close to its parent, with the wings
serving as a shield to protect from the harsh elements.
God gives us the ability to escape like a bird…
To see things as God Most High sees things.
To find protection under His wings.
Being led by the spirit, you will
develop wings like an
eagle.

Psalm 91:1-4
NIV
91 He who
dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in
the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say
of the Lord, "He is my refuge
and my
fortress,
my God, in
whom I trust."
3 Surely he
will save you from the fowler's snare
and from the
deadly pestilence.
4 He will
cover you with his feathers,
and under
his wings you will find refuge;
his
faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
