The Negotiator

The Million Dollar Life

By William M. Self, Sr.

A good Negotiator realizes
Money is not the bigger issue
It’s the heart
Negotiate to WIN the Heart

The Negotiator

Jesus in Luke 12, is frustrated
with people’s inability to negotiate.

Look at the man who comes to Jesus for help
in settling the dispute over the inheritance.

“Jesus replied, "Man, who appointed me
a judge or an arbiter between you?" Luke 12:14

Jesus ends the chapter by talking
about financial division in the family.

The strange thing is Jesus says…

“I have come to bring strife and division!” in the family.

In Jesus’ day, they did not need all the high tech
weather forecasting tools to discern coming storms.

Just like you can discern a storm is
coming,  you should be able to discern
when strife is coming to the family.

Jesus again shows His frustration and says…

"Why can't you decide for yourselves what is right?”

Jesus encouraged us to deal with
the wrong things in our families.

Not to let them go.

To be a negotiator.

A negotiator with a pure
heart and heavenly values.

Not allowing greed to get in
 the way of sound judgment.

I like the view point of
carefrontation verse confrontation.

Don’t let your ego or pride get in the way.

Settle matters before they get to court.

Here is a good reason to negotiate that I found…

“It is inevitable that, from time-to-time, conflict and disagreement will arise as the differing needs, wants, aims and beliefs of people are brought together.  Without negotiation, such conflicts may lead to argument and resentment resulting in one or all of the parties feeling dissatisfied. The point of negotiation is to try to reach agreements without causing future barriers to communications.”

“The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil”
“Keep yourselves free from the love of money”

This will make you a righteous negotiator.

Remember people are more
important than money and things.

Negotiations need to look at
the heart before the money.

Because the money will reveal the heart.

Scripture Reading

Luke 12:49-59 NLT
49 "I have come to bring fire to the earth, and I wish that my task were already completed!  50 There is a terrible baptism ahead of me, and I am under a heavy burden until it is accomplished.  51 Do you think I have come to bring peace to the earth? No, I have come to bring strife and division!  52 From now on families will be split apart, three in favor of me, and two against — or the other way around.  53 There will be a division between father and son, mother and daughter, mother-in-law and daughter-in-law."
54 Then Jesus turned to the crowd and said, "When you see clouds beginning to form in the west, you say, 'Here comes a shower.' And you are right.  55 When the south wind blows, you say, 'Today will be a scorcher.' And it is.  56 You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky, but you can't interpret these present times.

57 "Why can't you decide for yourselves what is right?  58 If you are on the way to court and you meet your accuser, try to settle the matter before it reaches the judge, or you may be sentenced and handed over to an officer and thrown in jail.  59 And if that happens, you won't be free again until you have paid the last penny."

1 Timothy 6:10 NIV
10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.
Some people, eager for money, have wandered from
the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Hebrew 13:4-6 NIV
5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and
be content with what you have, because God has said,

"Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you."

6 So we say with confidence,

"The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?"
