Great Wealth

The Million Dollar Life

By William M. Self, Sr.

“True religion with contentment is great wealth”

Do you have enough for whatever tomorrow brings?

“Great Wealth”

What is Great Wealth?

How much is enough?

You and I came into the world with
nothing and we leave with nothing.

So what do we need to fill the gap we call life?

Great wealth is not defined in the Bible with dollars.

Two things make up great wealth…

Godliness and Contentment

Paul says there are two things we need
in this life… good meals and clothes.

Jesus adds to the list, shelter.

If we have these things,
we should have contentment.

Proverbs 14:30 says…

“A heart at peace gives life to the body,
but envy rots the bones.”

Solomon gives us some good advice…

He looked at all his labor and the large amount
of wealth it produced and he saw it was vain.
It did not give him the contentment he was looking for.

The Apostle Paul said he learned the secret of contentment.

He learned how to manage a life of contentment.

He mastered contentment when
he had little and at times in his life
when he had a sizable amount of wealth.

You don’t have to stay poor to be content…

You just have to discover the secret of contentment.

Hebrews 13 gives us keys to the secret…

First, let your character be free from the love of money.

Second, remember God’s promise…

“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."

This promise was given…

So we can say with confidence,

"The Lord is my helper;
I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?"

How great is your wealth?

How godly and content are you?

Will it be enough for whatever tomorrow brings?

 Scripture Reading

Ephesians 1:18-20 NIV
18 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength,

1Timothy 6:5-10 NLT
5 These people always cause trouble. Their minds are corrupt, and they don't tell the truth. To them religion is just a way to get rich.

6 Yet true religion with contentment is great wealth. 7 After all, we didn't bring anything with us when we came into the world, and we certainly cannot carry anything with us when we die. 8 So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content. 9 But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is at the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.
