The Million Dollar Life
By William M. Self, Sr.
What is your key to blessing today?
More Blessed to Give
My family had the opportunity
to go on a vacation together.
Weeks before we left we sat around the
dinner table after church on Sunday as
we do every week and
discuss our plans.
One of those Sundays, I gave our
kids and grandkids a
challenge.
The challenge was to do random
acts of kindness on
vacation.
Each day I would ask if anyone
had done an act of
kindness.
It was neat to hear the responses.
Sandy and I were spending some time to
ourselves and stopped
at a restaurant.
We split a meal as we always do
to save money and eat
healthy.
At the end of our meal, Sandy leaned
across the table and spoke softly and
said I think we should pay the tab for
the couple at the
table next to us.
It took me by surprise, but
I thought it was a great idea.
So when the waitress came by we
asked her for the couple’s bill.
We told the waitress when they asked
for their tab to tell them it has been
paid for and God loves them.
The waitress who had already done
a good job of serving us, came back
with their tab and began to talk to us.
We could see her heart was filled
with joy at our act of kindness.
We got up to leave and the couple at the table
next to us having no
idea what was going on
looked up and smiled and said have a good
day as if they were
saying thanks.
I remember driving off in my dad’s 200
thousand mile Saturn we were using and
feeling like I was driving a Rolls Royce
and the richest man in the world.
Nothing I spent money on for that trip gave
me as wonderful
feeling as picking up the
tab of a perfect stranger anonymously.
Studies find it is better and healthier
to give than receive.
Get that feel better, getting better,
staying better feeling.
Try giving today.
Scripture
Reading
Ephesians
1:18-19 NIV
18 I pray
also that the eyes of your heart may be
enlightened
in order that you may know the hope
to which he has called you, the riches of
his glorious inheritance in the saints
Acts
20:32-35 NIV
32 "Now
I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and
give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. 33 I have not
coveted anyone's silver or gold or clothing. 34 You yourselves know that these
hands of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions. 35 In
everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the
weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said:
'It is more
blessed to give than to receive.'"
