Devotional Life
Light
If you are devoted to Christ you will have devotional time with Him
His light has been shining from the beginning to reach you
Having a devotional time is critical in a dark world
Embracing, by faith, the light He gives you will give you victory over darkness
Don’t forget the importance of hope
The world is dark but living in the light
Being the light of Christ, will make a difference
Don’t let the darkness of the world discourage you
Never give up hope of a brighter future
Light always dispels darkness
The light from heaven to earth travels at a fast speed
It may be a revelation to you today but
The light you receive today has been traveling for light years to reach you
Light
If you are devoted to Christ you
will have devotional time with Him.
His light has been shining
from the beginning to reach you.
Having a devotional time
is critical in a dark world.
Embracing, by faith, the light He gives you
will give you victory over darkness.
Don’t forget the importance of hope.
The world is dark
but living in the light…
Being the light of Christ
will make a difference.
Don’t let the darkness of
the world discourage you.
Never give up hope of a brighter future.
Light always dispels darkness.
The light from heaven to
earth travels at a fast speed.
It may be a revelation to you today but…
The light you receive today has been
traveling for light years to reach you.
We live in a world that is
disconnected from heaven.
We have all heard the word light year.
The Astronomy definition is…
The light-year is a unit of length used to
express astronomical distances and measures
about 9.46 trillion kilometres or 5.88 trillion miles.
As defined by the International Astronomical Union,
a light-year is the distance that light
travels in vacuum in one Julian year.
The informal definition is…
A long distance or great amount.
I am amazed at the speed of light.
Every day we see light and darkness.
The earth gets its light from the sun
and reflections of stars and planets.
We hardly think of how far away
the light source is or how
fast it travels to get here.
In Colossians 1:12-14, we see
the contrast of two kingdoms…
…giving thanks to the Father,
who has qualified you to share in the
inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.
For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness
and brought us into the
kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we
have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
The Kingdom of Light and
the Kingdom of Darkness.
In the Gospel of John,
chapter 8:12 and 9:5 Jesus says…
“I am the light of the world.”
John 1:4-5 says…
In him was life, and that life was the light of men.
The light shines in the darkness,
but the darkness has not understood it.
Three thoughts about light…
1. How far away is the light?
2. How fast does light travel?
3. How do we understand the light?
Jesus is the light of the world,
but He ascended into heaven
to be with the Father.
Like the sun, Jesus never stops
shining, yet the light has not reach many.
Understanding spiritual darkness is
more like a terrible storm than night.
When the light comes it reveals devastation
and destruction and it comes
to reveal how to restore life.
A devotional life is a life devoted to the light.
Our source of light is far from the world.
So how do we connect to the light of life?
When we look at all the answers
to life everything that exist there
are three things that are constant.
1 Corinthians 13:13 says that when
the final lights of the world are
turned off, three things remain.
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.
But the greatest of these is love.
These three things are key
to receiving the light of life.
God is love and His love never stops shining.
I think we fail to realize how
far the Kingdom of Darkness
is from the Kingdom of Light.
The love of God, the Light of
Life, travels at the speed of faith.
We see the light of the sun
and feel its heat…
But how many days do we think about
where the light and warmth came from?
Jesus came into the world…
His light is shining all around us in
love and kindness, but it takes
faith to believe in the source.
It takes faith to allow the light to change us.
When we do receive the light,
we become light.
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.
Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)
Ephesians 5:8-9
for the fruit of the light consists in all
goodness, righteousness and truth.
It takes faith to receive the light
and to see the fruit of it in our lives.
So our light source is love.
And faith is the speed in which
we receive and act on the light.
Hope is where we live in the light and
believe that someday our life
of love will make a difference.
Do we understand the light we receive
and act in faith on, will reach far out in time?
Do we hope that our life of faith in Christ,
the Light of the world, will shine like His light?
Can we see light years away?
Remember Hebrews 11, the great hall of faith?
You and I are just seeing their light.
Their light has been traveling for
centuries to testify of the Light of Christ.
If you are devoted to Christ you
will have devotional time with Him.
His light has been shining
from the beginning to reach you.
Having a devotional time
is critical in a dark world.
Embracing by faith, the light He gives you,
will give you victory over darkness.
Don’t forget the importance of hope.
The world is dark but living in the light,
being the light of Christ will make a difference.
Don’t let the darkness of the world discourage you.
Never give up hope of a brighter future.
Light always dispels darkness.
The light from heaven to
earth travels at a fast speed.
It may be a revelation to you today but…
The light you receive today has been
traveling for light years to reach you.
Scripture Reading
John 8:12 NIV
"I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness,
but will have the light of life."
John 1:1-14 NIV
1:1 In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
2 He was with God in the beginning.
3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.
6 There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9 The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.
10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
