Devotional Life
Start With Desire
How to get started
with a devotional time
The first thing is
desire
It is hard to do
anything unless you desire to do it
I love Psalms 37
Verse 3 says,
Trust in the LORD and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
To stay devoted to
God you need to have a devotional time
Where you are open
with the desires of your heart
Open to talk to Him
about what is on your heart
And open to Him
filling you with desire
Remember the first
thing we are called to do
“Love the LORD your God with all your heart”
Your devotional time
needs to be a time of conversation
With the LORD about
what is on your heart
The rest of Psalms 37
tells us what He will do
Start With Desire
How to get started with a devotional time…
The first thing is desire.
It is hard to do anything
unless you desire to do it.
I love Psalms 37.
Verse 3 says…
Trust in the LORD and
do good;
dwell in the land and
enjoy safe pasture.
Trust in the Lord.
Trust is not always easy.
Life’s journey is full of disappointments.
Things and people we trusted in have failed.
So trusting in the LORD has some reservation.
Life is easier when we have trust in our lives.
Trust gives us confidence and security.
You and I will do well…
If we develop trust in the Lord.
If we do good.
These two things help us
enjoy a safe place in life.
Verse 4 says…
Delight yourself in
the LORD and He
will give you the
desires of your heart.
Desire is our dreams and hopes.
When we delight our self in
the LORD the scriptures says…
He will give you the
desires of your heart.
My understanding of this comes in two forms…
The LORD puts desires in our hearts.
The other is the desires in
my heart the Lord fulfills.
One of the best ways to have a successful
devotional time is to realize your heart’s
desires matter to the
LORD.
If you are wondering how to have
a devotional time
with the LORD…
Than look no further
than your heart.
The LORD loves to have
heart to heart talks with us.
So what is on your heart?
What key words describe
the desire on your heart?
Once you define what is on your heart, you will
have interest in a conversation with the Lord.
There are many ways to
use your devotional time.
There are many places you can find
Christian writers who have written
about what is on your heart.
I do not read many books
but I do love to research.
A quick Google search of the key word
or question on your heart will open the
door to Christian authors sharing
their experience on that subject.
Looking at how that word is used
in the Bible will help you hear the
Lord’s voice on that subject.
Just in writing this devotional,
I did a Bible search
in Google
and my Bible Software.
Reading the verses on desire opened
my mind and also helped me to
remember many wonderful things.
In this search, I
felt the
Lord speaking to my heart…
Helping me with
desires that needed help.
I was reaffirmed of His desires for
me to trust in Him and do good.
To stay devoted to God, you need to
have a devotional time where you are
open with the desires of your heart.
Open to talk to Him about what is
on your heart and open to
Him filling you with desire.
Remember the first thing
we are called to do…
“Love the LORD your
God with all your
heart”
Your devotional time needs to
be a time of conversation with the
LORD about what is on your heart.
The rest of Psalms 37 tells
us what He will do…
Commit your way to the
LORD;
trust in him and he
will do this:
6 He will make your righteousness
shine like the dawn,
the justice of your
cause like the noonday sun.
7 Be still before the
LORD and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when men
succeed in their ways,
when they carry out
their wicked schemes.
8 Refrain from anger
and turn from wrath;
do not fret — it leads
only to evil.
9 For evil men will be
cut off,
but those who hope in
the LORD will inherit the land.
