Devotional Life Devotional Time

Devotional Life
Devotional Time

To have a devotional life you need a devotional time
Time where you are not distracted
A time to build yourself up in the faith
A time when you listen to the heart of God as you read His Word
Recognize your conversation is between heaven and earth
You will have questions to help you understand how the heavenly
And spiritual things are worked out in earth
Remember your life is more than natural instincts
Your life is Natural and Spiritual
You are looking for more than facts and history
You are communicating with God who is the Holy Spirit
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17

Devotional Time

Jude tells us in verse 19
there are two types of people…

Those who follow mere natural instincts
and those who follow the Spirit.

These two should not be
opposed to each other…

 But they are.

If we live by just natural instinct,
 we will live without God.

This leads to everyone doing
what they see as right.

If we live by just the Spirit,
 we will live in fantasy.

This leads to being so heavenly
minded you are no earthly good.

In verse 20 Jude says…

But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in
your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.

Build yourself up.

A devotional life is a work out.

Our faith needs muscle.

A body with muscle is strong.

Muscle is developed by use.

How does faith come?

Romans 10:17 says…

 Faith comes by hearing.

A devotional life will be devoted
to hearing God’s Word.

This means a devotional life has a
devotional time for God’s Word.

Jesus got up early to have a
devotional time with the Father.
 Mark 1:35

I have found I need to give the first
part of my day to a devotional time.

If I don’t, other things get in my mind
and God does not get my best.

For me 9:00am is when the
business world starts moving.

So I get up at 6:00am to beat
the 9:00am rush for my time.

This also means I am in
bed at night by 10:00pm.

If I am going to build up myself in
the faith, I need a disciplined time.

A devotional life is motivated by love.

I love 6:00am, I look forward to it.

Jude also says pray in the Holy Spirit.

Recognize your devotion time is a spiritual time.

Remember Jesus teaching on how to pray.

First address your Father
in Heaven with respect.

The next thing Jesus tells us to do is…

Your kingdom come, your will be
done on earth as it is in heaven.
Matthew 6:10

Your devotional time needs to
be a time of receiving…

 Heavenly, spiritual truth and
gaining an understanding of
how it is worked out in the earth.

This means a devotional time
is more than memorization.

This is a time of prayer as you read God’s Word…

You are listening to His words.

His words will trigger your mind and
you need to share those things with Him.

God’s Word is alive…

For the word of God is living and active.
Sharper than any double-edged sword,
it penetrates even to dividing soul
and spirit, joints and marrow;
it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12

“build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray”

Means the first words you read are the
start of God’s conversation with you…

That is prayer.

Jude 21 says…

Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait
for the mercy of our Lord Jesus
Christ to bring you to eternal life.

Keep yourselves in God's love

A devotional life is a life of love.

Your first goal is to commit to loving God.

To have a devotional life…

 You need a devotional time.

Time where you are not distracted.

A time to build yourself up in the faith.

A time when you listen to the
heart of God as you read His Word.

Recognize your conversation
is between heaven and earth.

You will have questions to help you
understand how the heavenly and
spiritual things are worked out in earth.

Remember your life is more than natural instincts.

Your life is Natural and Spiritual.

You are looking for more than facts and history.

You are communicating with God,
 who is the Holy Spirit…

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for
teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
