Devotional Life The Same Yesterday, Today & Forever

Devotional Life

The Same Yesterday, Today & Forever

How do you define “Boring”?

For most of us we are bored when things stay the same

When all our days run into each other,

everyday seems to be the same old, same old

When we get tired of the same old thing we cry out for change

America in 2020 is crying out for change

We are destroying our monuments that remind us of yesterday

We want to remove or erase our history so we can rewrite it our way

Don’t rewrite history to create your own freedom

Change is good when we change to be the same as Christ

His unchanging nature has never been or ever will be boring

Your freedom does not come from changing everything around you

But by a change in you

The Book of Hebrews warns of becoming bored and rewriting history

Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:7-8

History Has Great Value

The Same Yesterday, Today & Forever

How do you define “Boring”?

For most of us we are bored

when things stay the same.

When all our days run into each other,

everyday seems to be the same old,

 same old.

When we get tired of the same

old thing, we cry out for change.

America in 2020 is crying out for change.

We are destroying our monuments

that remind us of yesterday.

We want to remove or erase our

history so we can rewrite it our way.

Over 30 years ago, I took my

family to the New England States…

The rich heritage and

founding of this great nation.

I remember how shocked I

was at what I saw and heard.

There was a tour we had taken to

hear and see our nation’s history.

The tour guide seemed

bent on rewriting history.

All I had learned in school this

man mocked and made jokes of.

I don’t think he said one positive thing

about the monuments, statures and

places of history we went to.

Every great historic leader he talked about,

he took the liberty to tell us of the

roamers of affairs, cheating, greed and slander.

I was sick and angry as he made a mockery

and joke of the founding of our nation.

I know all have sin, no man or women,

no matter how much good they

have done, is without faults.

Sadly, we get bored with the same old, same old.

We want to rewrite history and most of

the time we tear it down because we want

to make room for our personal freedom.

Freedom that does not respect our past

or the people of the past, will not

respect the people today or tomorrow.

There is no freedom without respect.

The Book of Hebrews warns of

becoming bored and rewriting history.

Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you.

Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Hebrews 13:7-8

History has great value…

Because we can see the outcome

of those who have gone before us.

History reveals the good, the bad and the ugly.

We are to remember our leaders

who spoke the Word of God.

The Bible has had no problem showing the

strength and weakness of Godly leaders.

God’s Word does not throw out

the baby with the bathwater.

History is to hold us accountable.

Look at Jesus’ words as He

warns Korazin and Bethsaida…

"Woe to you, Korazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida!

For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.

But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you.

Luke 10:13-14

Every generation is to build on the

successes and failures of the past,

not destroy it so we can rewrite history.

Jesus Christ is the same

yesterday and today and forever.

He does not change.

In your devotional time beware of becoming

bored with God’s unchanging nature.

As you spend time with God…

Don’t try to change history or change God.

Freedom does not come by changing your history.

Freedom comes by you changing today.

So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view.

Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer.

 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation;

the old has gone, the new has come!

2 Corinthians 5:16-18

The message you study in your devotional

time is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.

You may wear different cloths

and travel by different means…

But the message of Christ stays the same.

When our yesterdays, today and

tomorrows seem boring...

Don’t rewrite history to create your own freedom.

Change is good when we

change to be the same as Christ.

His unchanging nature has never

been or ever will be boring.

Because your freedom does

not come from changing everything

around you, but by a change in you.

Dear friends, now we are children of God,

and what we will be has not yet been made known.

But we know that when he appears,

we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.

1 John 3:2-3
