Devotional Life
Write It Down
The Lord told
Habakkuk to write down the revelation
Make the effort in
your devotional time
To pick up the
treasures and write them down
Spend time adjusting
those treasures into words that are plain to read
Write in your own
words
What you have gotten
from time with the Lord and His Word
Than look for those
you can share it with
A word aptly spoken
is like apples of gold in settings of silver. Proverbs 25:11
A wise mentor is not
a wordy guy with lots of options
When they speak,
their words will have meaning in life and the lives of others
God will speak to you
in your devotional time with Him
Take time to set
those words of gold in settings of silver
Then give them as a
valuable piece of jewelry that will adorn others
Making them feel more
valuable
Write It Down
If it is important…
Write it down.
Before you go to the store
make a list…
Write it down.
When you meet a new friend
or business acquaintance…
Write it down.
That appointment you made…
Write it down.
Writing something down
is such a good idea.
I have never liked my handwriting.
So I am very glad for computers and
spell check, copy and paste and all the
various tools we now have to write down
those important things in our lives.
As a young minister, I was
mentored by a man I greatly respect.
I watched his life in every
way and I learned so much.
He was a very disciplined man.
He ran every day,
balanced
church work and family.
His spiritual life was amazing.
One of the things that made his spiritual
life so amazing was his daily journaling.
He wrote down the things
he was praying about,
the scriptures he had
read,
his thoughts and what
he felt God was saying to him.
You could ask him any day of the week…
“What is God saying
to you?”
And he would have a fresh answer.
He did not do this for the next sermon
he would preach, he did it for himself.
It was private, but it made him
stand out like a lighthouse.
When I started writing daily devotionals, I felt
like my little feet were growing in his shoes.
I will forever be grateful to Ted Evans,
and for his positive
influence in my life.
My devotional time takes place in my office.
I have a large TV as a computer monitor.
I open a Word window,
Bible Program and Google.
I also have a pad of
paper with a pen.
There are many ways to start
journaling your devotional time.
I can guarantee that if you write a
Journal, you will gain so much more.
For years I would read through
the Bible in a Year, every other year.
I found I was more focused on
getting the reading done, than
getting something out of my reading.
The big picture is very important
to understanding the small pieces.
The little pieces are the specks and nuggets
of gold that give value to the big picture.
My devotional time is a commitment
to get my daily bread and some
bread I can share with someone else.
So I do not feel my devotional time
is complete without writing down
something that spoke to me.
Every Monday through Friday I do two things…
I first read a devotional I wrote weeks ago
(in order I wrote them) before I email it out
to those who request
it and put it in my blog.
I am amazed almost every
day, if I did not realize it…
I would have never known I had written it.
This is so encouraging as it confirms the
Holy Spirit is involved in my devotional
time and He is speaking to me.
I am always so encouraged to
find new treasures after looking at
the treasures I found days before.
The Lord told Habakkuk to
write down the revelation.
Make the effort in your devotional time to
pick up the treasures and write them down.
Spend time adjusting those treasures
into words that are plain to read.
Write in your own words what you have
gotten from time with the Lord and His Word.
Than look for those you can share it with…
A word aptly spoken is

Making them feel more valuable.
Scripture Reading
Habakkuk 2:1-2 NIV
I will stand at my watch
and station myself on the ramparts;
I will look to see what he will say to me,
and what answer I am to give to this complaint.
2 Then the LORD replied:
"Write down the revelation
and make it plain on tablets
so that a herald may run with it.
