Jesus’ Words in Red
Troubled Heart
"Now
my heart is troubled, and what shall I say?
"Now my heart is troubled,
and what shall I say?
'Father, save me from this hour'?
No,
it was for this very reason I came to this
hour.
Father,
glorify your name!"
In the hour your
heart is overwhelmed and sinks
Our Father’s purpose
is Glory
Troubled Heart
You know when the heart is troubled…
It is when overwhelming circumstances
stand in the way of life as normal.
It is like your heart is on an elevator and as you
are going up to new heights, there is an abrupt stop.
The elevator carrying your heart falls.
It is the feeling of an amusement park
ride, but there is no one at the controls.
You know what I am talking about.
You have had times when your
heart sank and your fingers tingled.
Death in some ways has
abruptly entered your life.
Loss of something you valued
is, or is being, taken away.
So what do you do?
Jesus had that troubled heart feeling.
Staring Him in the face was the reality
that those who hated Him would kill Him.
He could no longer be seen in public without
fear of being caught, tortured and killed.
Enjoying gatherings with friends
has now become impossible.
His world was shrinking.
All that was left to look forward
to was pain, suffering and death.
Jesus gives the natural response we
all give when our hearts are troubled…
'Father, save me from this hour'
This is our natural cry even
if we don’t believe in God.
But Jesus said, “NO” to that cry.
Jesus believed He had a purpose.
Jesus lived with purpose.
Jesus did not define His
purpose, His Father did.
Jesus believed that not only did His life have
purpose but every hour of His life had purpose.
“No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour.”
You and I are also here for a purpose.
There is not an hour of our
lives that do not have purpose…
Not even the hard and difficult hours.
In order for us to find our purpose when our
hearts are troubled, we must do what Jesus did.
Jesus said…
“Father, glorify your name!"
Jesus’ whole life, the times of miracles and the
times of persecution, was filled with one purpose…
“Father, glorify your name!"
Many times Jesus walked out of imitate danger.
We also know that He did
not walk away from the cross.
In every situation one thing mattered to Jesus…
“Father, glorify your name!"
Later in the Gospel of John, we
will see Jesus’ farewell address.
In it Jesus spends time teaching
us how to handle a troubled heart.
But here in John 12 we find Jesus giving us an
example of what to do when our heart is troubled.
Look for your hour of trouble
to give glory to the Father.
Then let the Father speak
to you and those around you.
“Then a voice came
from heaven,
"I have glorified
it, and will glorify it again."
Scripture Reading
John 12:27-33 NIV
27 "Now my heart is troubled,
and what shall I say? 'Father, save me from this hour'? No, it was for this
very reason I came to this hour. 28 Father, glorify your name!"
Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it,
and will glorify it again." 29 The crowd that was there and heard it said
it had thundered; others said an angel had spoken to him.
30 Jesus said, "This voice was
for your benefit, not mine. 31 Now is the time for judgment on this world; now
the prince of this world will be driven out. 32 But I, when I am lifted up from
the earth, will draw all men to myself."
33 He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die.
