Jesus’ Words in Red The LIGHT is for the Work of God

Jesus’ Words in Red
The LIGHT is for the Work of God

“I am the light of the world."

Both the woman caught in adultery and the man born blind
Needed the “Light of the World”

The person born into this world and the great sinner
are in darkness unless they see the “Light of the World”

The blind man begged for his living until
he washed the mud, (the world view) off his eyes

He washed in the pool of “Siloam” meaning “sent”

When his eyes were opened He saw God was sending him

"But this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.”

When we are healed of blindness we too will see
the work of God displayed in and through our lives

Make use of the light God gives you

The LIGHT is for the Work of God

“I am the Light of the World”

The LIGHT is for the Work of God in you and others.

Jesus claims…

“Before Abraham was born I Am” John 8:58

There are 7 “I Am” teachings Jesus
gives us in John’s Gospel.

The first is in John 6:35
“I am the bread of life”

The second is in John 8:12
“I am the light of the world”

Jesus first said this when the woman
caught in adultery was brought to Him.

In the next chapter we see Jesus says again
“I am the light of the world” John 9:5

The context where we find Jesus claim in John 9
is with a man born blind from birth.

When Jesus says He is “the light of the world”
He is not talking of a natural light like the sun.

Jesus is speaking of a spiritual meaning…

In the same way the healing of the blind man
also is to teach us a spiritual meaning.

All of us are like the blind man.

We are born blind.

The blindness keeps out the light,
the ability to see the things around us.

It is interesting that Jesus puts earth
on the man’s eyes and only after the
earthly mud is washed off does he see.

The point of John 9 is not just Jesus’ healing power.

The point is “The work of God”

"But this happened so that the work of
God might be displayed in his life.”

What is the work of God?

To display Himself in a person’s life.

Verse 4 ties Jesus being the light of the
world and the work of God together.

As long as it is day, we must do
the work of him who sent me.
Night is coming, when no one can work.

Jesus is “the light of the world”.

As long as He is bringing light, what God
wants to work in our lives can be seen.

Only Jesus’ light can reveal the great
works God wants to do in our lives.

Although Jesus was in the world,
the Pharisees could not see.

"For judgment I have come into this world,
so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind."

Some Pharisees who were with him heard him
say this and asked, "What? Are we blind too?"

Jesus said, "If you were blind, you would
not be guilty of sin; but now that you
claim you can see, your guilt remains.

God wants to work in each one of our lives.

We are all blind without the light of Jesus.

We are all blind until the earthly view
of things is washed off our eyes.

You and I will not be able to see the work
of God displayed in our lives unless
we wash the world view off our eyes.

The world around us will not be able
to see the work of God unless the
world view is washed off the eyes.

Only then will the light of Christ be able to
reveal the great works God wants to do.

We are blind because of our
world view, the mud on our eyes.

The light of the world is shining.

The work of God is waiting
to be displayed in our lives.

The blind man spent his life begging
until he went to the pool of Siloam and
washed the earthly mud off his eyes.

We should also note the pool of Siloam
means “sent” where we get the word “Apostle”.

The blind man by washing his eyes was
being “sent” to do the work of God.

“As long as it is day, we must do
the work of him who sent me.”

God heals us of our blindness so we can
see the work He has sent us to do.

Scripture Reading NIV

John 9:1-5
9:1 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"

3 "Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life. 4 As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. 5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world."

John 9:35-41
35 Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?"

36 "Who is he, sir?" the man asked. "Tell me so that I may believe in him."

37 Jesus said, "You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you."

38 Then the man said, "Lord, I believe," and he worshiped him.

39 Jesus said, "For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind."

40 Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, "What? Are we blind too?"

41 Jesus said, "If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.

John 8:12
12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world . Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
