Jesus’ Words in Red
The Light
"I
am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but
will have the light of life."
I know we are very
familiar with this verse "I am the light of the world.”
But what does it mean
“Whoever follows
me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
Christ not only
lights up the path of eternal life but also your daily path
Your path to life,
the path of where you are from to where you are going,
has a guiding light and
that light is Jesus
So don’t be stupid
use the light
Follow the light of
Jesus every day and in every place
Keep your lights on
24/7
The Light
As kids, we can do some foolish things.
Before I had my driver’s license
I had some friends that drove.
We liked to go night fishing
on the Maumee River.
One night while following the winding road
that ran beside the river, we thought it
would be cool to turn the car lights off.
We were traveling at about 50 miles per hour
when the driver decided to turn the lights back on.
As he did, we saw the road turned and a
very large tree in the light of our headlights.
If we had waited just a few seconds later we
would have not made the curve and hit the tree.
(And to think we thought that was funny.)
There is a good reason cars have headlights.
You don’t want to travel at night without them on.
Jesus said…
"I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness,
but will have the light of life."
Following Jesus gives light to the journey of eternal life.
It is stupid to drive at night without your headlights on.
Without light you cannot see where you are going.
Jesus says in context of being the light of the world…
“I know where I came from and where I am going.
But you have no idea where I come from or where I am going.”
Can you answer the question…
Where you are from and where you are going?
Maybe our approach is we are just living the dream.
If you are sleeping, you don’t want the
lights on but you also are not going anywhere.
For those who want to know the purpose
of life, they need to know where they
came from and where they are going.
If you don’t know where you came from
and where you are going, you are lost.
When you are lost you feel like you are in the dark.
Of all people the Pharisees should
have known where they were going.
Many of us claim to know God
but do not know where we are going
because we are in the dark.
Some of us will allow
Jesus to be our light but
only in some of our rooms or only at some times.
We are driving on the winding road of life
and like a stupid kid you want the
thrill of turning the headlights off.
I know we are very familiar with this verse…
"I am the light of the world.”
But what does it mean…
“Whoever follows me
will never walk in darkness,
but will have the light of life."
Christ not only lights up the path of eternal
life but also lights up your daily path.
Your path to life, the path of where you
are from to where you are going,
has a guiding light and that light is Jesus.
So don’t be stupid, use the light.
Follow the light of Jesus every day and in every place.
Keep your lights on 24/7.
Scripture Reading
John 8:12-18 NIV
12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will
never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
13 The Pharisees challenged him, "Here you are,
appearing as your own witness; your testimony is not valid."
14 Jesus answered, "Even if I testify
on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where
I am going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I am going. 15 You
judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one. 16 But if I do judge, my
decisions are right, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent
me. 17 In your own Law it is written that the testimony of two men is valid. 18
I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent
me."
