Jesus’ Words in Red Revealing the Full Extent of His Love

Jesus’ Words in Red

Revealing the Full Extent of His Love

"Unless I wash you, you have no part with me."

I marvel at the words
“Having loved His own who were in the world,
He now showed them the full extent of His love.”
When Peter saw Jesus take off His outer garments
To him it was as Jesus took off the robe of the King of Kings
When Peter saw Jesus looking like a servant to wash his feet
He could not receive or accept it
But when Peter saw his only way of acceptance was for Jesus to wash his feet
Peter whole heartedly said
"Not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!"
God wants to show you and I the full extent of His love
And it starts with us letting Him wash us of our sins

Revealing the Full Extent of His Love

 I marvel at the words…

“Having loved His own who were in the world,
He now showed them the full extent of His love.”

Jesus got up after the meal and
took off His outer garments.

As a pastor, I wore a suit coat or jacket with
a tie until the tie became out of fashion.

I still, when going to church, wear a jacket.

I found what I wear makes a
difference in the eyes of people.

I have found greater respect given to
me when I wear the outer garment.

We do not know what
Jesus was wearing that night.

We do know the soldiers who crucified
Jesus would not divide His coat because it
was woven in one piece, without a seam.

At the cross, Jesus’ outer garment was taken off
leaving Him with only the status of a criminal.

It may have been a garment that
reflected the look of a teacher, a leader.

Although we do not know what He wore,
whatever symbol it might have had, He took it off.

Jesus then took a towel and
wrapped it around His waist.

This was not the picture of a man
after a workout revealing his six-pack.

The towel was not to cover Him
 but for His disciples.

The towel and basin of water
reveals the picture of a servant.

Peter gets it… “Jesus is the Christ”
He should never be seen as a servant.

Peter was thinking…

Jesus should never serve, but be served.

Imagine God wants to wash you?

Jesus did not tell the disciple to wash
before they came into the house.

He personally washed them, the master of the
house became the servant of the house to wash them.

Peter gets it…

He will wash himself never would
the Christ become his servant.

But Jesus says…

"Unless I wash you, you have no part with me."

To think Jesus would wash your dirty feet.

To think Jesus is humble enough to take
off all signs of authority and become a
servant to wash your feet is humbling.

You may not be able to get close to dignitaries…

But Jesus truly came to serve you and I.

He wants to get close enough to wash you.

Embarrassing, HEAVENS YES!!!

This act may have seemed to
be disrespectful in Peter’s eyes.

But when Peter saw His need, he said…

"Not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!"

Let Jesus wash you.

Now can you see why the scriptures says…

“He now showed them the full extent of His love.”

God wants to show you and I the full
extent of His love, and it starts with
us letting Him wash us of our sins.

Scripture Reading

John 13:1-11 NIV

13:1 It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he now showed them the full extent of his love.

2 The evening meal was being served, and the devil had already prompted Judas Iscariot, son of Simon, to betray Jesus. 3 Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; 4 so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. 5 After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples' feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, "Lord, are you going to wash my feet?"

7 Jesus replied, "You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand."

8 "No," said Peter, "you shall never wash my feet."

Jesus answered, "Unless I wash you, you have no part with me."

9 "Then, Lord," Simon Peter replied, "not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!"

10 Jesus answered, "A person who has had a bath needs only to wash his feet; his whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you."  11 For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean.
