The Blessing
By William M. Self, Sr.
Starting a New Year reminds us
Don’t get lost in the momentary ups and downs
“You crown the year
with your bounty,
and your carts
overflow with abundance.”
Psalms 65
I am fascinated with time frames.
I love to study stock market charts.
Patterns are developed over time
and the charts reveal these patterns.
If you look at a one minute chart,
this is a chart that shows the high and
the low price of a
stock every minute.
When looking at one minute
charts, you see a lot of busyness.
It is like watching the heartbeat, but you are
unable to see the life lived by those beats.
But take that same stock, or life, and look
at a yearly chart
where you see the high
and low price for every year.
I have lost money when I focused on the one
minute chart and did not see the patterns
of the long term time frames like the
daily, weekly, monthly and yearly charts.
Many times our lives are like that, we get
lost in the busyness of the minutes of a day.
The Psalmist in Psalms 65 was
looking at a yearly chart.
And what he saw was…
“You crown the year with your bounty,
and your carts
overflow with abundance.”
I am sure on a minute to minute or
even a day to day chart the Psalmist
had a lot of ups and downs.
At times, the Psalmist couldn’t figure out the
direction of his life or what God was doing.
But as he looked back over a longer
time frame, he could see God’s
abilities and how He blessed his year.
I have no way of knowing what time
of year the Psalmist wrote Psalms 65.
But it is a great Psalm to dwell
on as we start a New
Year.
There will be a lot of ups and downs
in our lives over the next year.
But…
“God will crown the year with His bounty,
and His carts overflow
with abundance.”
Stay focused on His bounty this year
and you will set all-time highs and your
lows will always find strong support.
