Making Good Your Promise

The Blessing

By William M. Self, Sr.

45% of Americans make New Year’s Resolutions

The Psalmist said “to you our vows will be fulfilled”

How about you how will you fulfill

Your commitment to Christ this year

The University of Scranton published
these statistics on January 1, 2014…

The Top Ten Resolutions for 2014

1
Lose Weight
2
Getting Organized
3
Spend Less, Save More
4
Enjoy Life to the Fullest
5
Staying Fit and Healthy
6
Learn Something Exciting
7
Quit Smoking
8
Help Others in Their Dreams
9
Fall in Love
10
Spend More Time with Family

They claim 45% of us usually
make New Year’s Resolutions.

People who explicitly make resolutions are 10
times more likely to attain their goals than
people who don’t explicitly make resolutions.

47% of those who make resolutions are self
improvement or education related resolutions.

The success rate for people in their twenties
who achieve their resolution is 39%.

People over 50 who achieve their
resolution each year are 14%.

Only 46% may maintain their
resolution through the first 6 months.

Psalms 65, what I call the New Year’s Psalm
because of verse 11 starts out…

“Praise awaits you, O God, in Zion;
to you our vows will be fulfilled”

Have you made a New Year’s resolution?

Most resolutions we make to ourselves.

Have you made a resolution to God?

The Psalmist says…

“to you our vows will be fulfilled”.

If you have invited Christ into your heart you made a vow.

Have you thought about how you
would practically fulfill that vow this year.

How deeply have you explored
what that commitment means…

And how that commitment affects everything you do?

Because 38% never make New Year’s Resolutions
and they are 10 time less likely to achieve their goals…

And over 50% of us don’t keep our resolution over 6 months…

And if you are over 50 you have a 14%
chance of fulfilling your Resolution…

Maybe we all better remind ourselves of
the commitment we made to Christ and
renew our vow’s annually to the Lord.
