Can You Live Without the Blessing?

The Blessing

By William M. Self, Sr.

When things don’t go right for you

Can you live without the blessing?

Will you still love God and do what is right?

“You have blessed the work of his hands.”

That is what Satan said to God about Job.

That is the blessing I want.

I want God to bless everything I do.

Satan gave us the reason everything
Job put his hands to was blessed…

"Have you not put a hedge around him
and his household and everything he has?”

When we built our house, it rained almost
every day until we closed on the property.

It did not rain again for several
months until we put the roof on.

Yes, it rained at times a mile to the
north or south, but not on our house.

People I did not know came to help me
because they liked that kind of work.

Can you imagine if God kept the
stray dog out of your garbage!

The rain away from your picnic!

The sun always shined when
you went to worked in the yard!

But we all know what happened to Job…

The hedge was lifted.

The blessing was gone.

Everything around him fell apart.

It was worse than running late and your battery being dead.

You try to fix a $50 project and you break a $200 part.

Nothing went right for Job.

I am sure you have had days like that and said…

God where are you?

Satan asked a big question…

“Does Job fear God for nothing?”

If we are not blessed like we think we
should be blessed, will we quit on God?

Will we say what’s the use?

Can you and I live godly lives without the blessing?

Will you keep doing right even if all goes wrong?

Just remember the next time your good works are cursed…

Satan is asking, "Do you fear God for nothing?"

Scripture Reading

Job 1:9-11 NIV

9 "Does Job fear God for nothing?" Satan replied.
10 "Have you not put a hedge around him
and his household and everything he has?
You have blessed the work of his hands,
so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land.
11 But stretch out your hand and strike everything he has,
and he will surely curse you to your face."
