The Blessing of the Ark

The Blessing

 By William M. Self, Sr.

Do you live a life of luck or a life of blessing?

A life of chance or a life of covenant?

"The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-Edom
and everything he has, because of the ark of God."

God still honors His covenant, do you?

The Blessing of the Ark

When I was a boy the rabbit’s foot
was a popular good luck charm.

I never believed in luck but I liked
carrying around a rabbit’s foot.

I have a four inch scar on my arm where
on a dare in grade school I let a fellow
classmate use my rabbit’s foot to cut my arm.

Many people carry lucky charms
in hopes of life going their way.

Some might say Obed-Edom was lucky
but the Bible says he was blessed.

For three month, the Ark of God also called
the Ark of the Covenant was at his house.

During that time, the Bible says…

"The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-Edom
and everything he has, because of the ark of God."

“Because of the Ark of God”

How do we get the blessing of God on
our household and everything we have?

King David wanted the blessing of God
he wanted to bring the Ark back to Zion.

David loved God and wanted the right
things but he went about it the wrong way.

Bring the Ark back to Zion should have been
a joyous thing but it ended in tragedy.

Because David did not consider God’s instruction,
a man died and the ark rested at Obed-Edom’s house.

David was angry because he was doing
something for God and was not blessed.

David sought God and found out how
God wanted the ark to be transported.

Good luck charms will not bring
the blessing to your household.

Our clever ideas will not bring the blessing.

The blessing comes as we seek to please God.

The Ark was to rest in the Holy of Holies.

If the ark was to rest in your house, how holy is it.

I wonder if Obed-Edom had to remove
things from his house or life to make
room for the Ark of the Covenant.

Having the Ark means you honor the covenant.

Where the Covenant is honored
there will be the blessing.

Scripture Reading

2 Samuel 6:11-12 NIV

The ark of the Lord remained in the house of
Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months, and
the Lord blessed him and his entire household.

12 Now King David was told,
"The Lord has blessed the household
of Obed-Edom and everything he has,
because of the ark of God."
So David went down and brought up the ark
of God from the house of Obed-Edom
to the City of David with rejoicing.
