What is the Reason for Labor Day?

Labor Day

By William M. Self, Sr.

Did your labor over the last year
Bring Righteous, Social and Economic achievements

"Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I
will give to everyone according to what he has done.” Revelation 22:12

What is the Reason for Labor Day?

Labor Day for all the things we have made it, it was meant to be…

“A day dedicated to recognizing and honoring the social
and economic achievements of American workers”

It is a good thing to take inventory at least once a year
and see what has been accomplished by our labors.

The Book of Proverbs warns the lazy person.

The Book of Ecclesiastes warns the over achiever.

In Ecclesiastes, we are told there is a time for everything.

In the time we have from birth to death, time is to be managed.

A time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
A time to …..

What you and I do with our time is important.

It is frustrating to work hard and have nothing to show for it.

Like building a sand castle on the
beach as the waves are coming in.

Or, waking up late to find out the fish were biting
in the morning or the best of the sale was picked over.
The last Book of the Bible, The Book of Revelation tells us…

There will be a final Labor Day.

A day God will judge every person by what they have done.

"Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will
give to everyone according to what he has done.” Revelation 22:12

The final Labor Day will be dedicated to recognizing and
honoring the social and economic achievements of every person.

Solomon concludes after exploring everything under the sun.

Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the whole [duty] of man.
For God will bring every deed into judgment,
including every hidden thing,
whether it is good or evil. Ecclesiastes 12:13-14

God will reward the diligent work of the righteous.

In whatever season you are in, do the right thing.

So as we celebrate Labor Day and
 look over our accomplishments…

Did we honor God by the way we did it?

Let’s make this our goal for next Labor Day…

“Whatever you do, whether in word or deed,
do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving
thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:17

Scripture Reading

Hebrews 6:10-12 NIV
God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and
the love you have shown him as you have helped
his people and continue to help them.
11 We want each of you to show this same diligence
to the very end, in order to make your hope sure.
12 We do not want you to become lazy, but to
imitate those who through faith and patience
inherit what has been promised.

Ecclesiastes  3:1 NIV
There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:
A time to…..

Proverbs 10:4 NIV
Lazy hands make a man poor,
but diligent hands bring wealth.
