Stumbling

The Secret Place

By William M. Self, Sr.

In the secret place of the Most High

The angels keep us from stumbling

“They will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone”

Stumbling

Stumbling generally means something bad.

To stumble is to make an error or blunder.

To stumble is to come to an obstacle
 in something we believe.

To stumble is to trip in walking or running.

To stumble is to walk unsteadily or clumsily.

To stumble is to speak or act in
a hesitant or faltering manner.

To stumble is to fall or move carelessly.

To stumble is to fall into sin or waywardness.

In the secret place of the Most High,
 the angels keep us from stumbling.

“They will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”

  When Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
 the devil used this scripture to trip up Jesus.

Jesus’ response was…

"It says: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.”
 Luke 4:12

The Bible tells us…

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.

There is a path God has for each one of us.

Our confidence increases as we walk that path.

We see God gives us power over everything on the path.

Psalms 91 says…

We trample on the lion and snake.

But taking the line from a 1905 best seller…

“For fools rush in where Angels fear to tread.”

There are places we should not go, places
 beyond the path God has laid out for us.

The angels hold our hand on the
path of life ordained for us.

 When we, like a child, let
go to our own exploration,
we find many ways to stumble.

“But those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.”

Are you walking with the angels?

Scripture Reading

Psalm 91:9-13 NIV
9 If you make the Most High your dwelling —
even the Lord, who is my refuge —
10 then no harm will befall you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

Isaiah 40:30-31 NIV
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
