The Birth of Christ Jesus Came to Save Sinners

The Birth of Christ
Jesus Came to Save Sinners

Paul warns that we can get caught up in our heritage
And miss the work of God to save sinners
Paul warns of getting caught up in meaningless talk rather than Faith
The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.” 1 Timothy 1:6
Genealogy is a key and an important part of the Birth of Jesus
But promoting genealogy produces controversy
Jesus was not born to promote genealogy but
Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners
The only one from Adam and Eve who was without sin
In the genealogy of the human race is Jesus
Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance:
Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners — of whom I am the worst.
But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners,
Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those
who would believe on him and receive eternal life.
Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God,
be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Timothy 1:15-17

Jesus Came to Save Sinners

When you read the account of Jesus’ birth in
Matthew and Luke, you will find the family tree of Jesus.

Keeping track of family ancestry
was very important to Jewish people
as well as many other ethnic groups.

Some of us are proud of our
heritage and some of us are not.

Some of us are such a blend
we call ourselves the melting pot.

The saying “family is everything” is good
when it comes to taking responsibility for
supporting and building healthy families.

Jesus was born with a strong Jewish heritage.

Jesus put family first, yet Jesus’ compassion
and ministry went beyond the Jewish people.

Jesus recognized the Jewish people had
problems that hurt their own people.

Jesus saw every people group had problems.

Problems that inflected pain and suffering on others.

In 1 Timothy 1:15 Paul writes…

Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance:
Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners — of whom I am the worst.
“Jesus came into the world to save sinners”

I know it is offensive to call someone a sinner.

But at the end of life, we all, if we are honest,
would say “I wish I had done some things better”.

If you are throwing darts at a dart board only
the small circle in the center gets 100 points.

You may be getting points when you hit the board
or you may be like me and miss the board all together.

Paul said he missed the board altogether.

The Bible says “All have Sin”.

There is an ethnic group called the
human race which we are all a part of.

And we are all a part of the group called sinners.

Paul says “of whom I am the worst.”

Paul brings us hope when he says…

“…of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life.”
1 Timothy 1:15-16

When you and I turn on the news
and see the terrible things we do to each
other, our emotions and patience grow short.

Think of God viewing not only the
actions but the hearts of every one of us.

God sent His Son, Jesus, not to
destroy sinners but to save them.

Paul wants you and I to know
from personal experience that…

“…Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an
example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life.”
  “Unlimited patience”

Paul urged Timothy not to let
genealogy get in the way of faith.

There are those who stir up controversy
over their endless genealogies.

You can be proud of your genealogy.

But each person, as good as they
might have been, missed the mark
and is a sinner that needed to be saved.

Paul warns that we can get caught up in our
heritage and miss the work of God to save sinners.

Paul warns of getting caught up in
meaningless talk rather than Faith…

The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart
and a good conscience and a sincere faith.”
1 Timothy 1:6

Scripture Reading

1 Timothy 1:3-20 NIV

3 As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer 4 nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than God's work — which is by faith. 5 The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 6 Some have wandered away from these and turned to meaningless talk. 7 They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.

8 We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. 9 We also know that law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10 for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers — and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine 11 that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.

12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me faithful, appointing me to his service. 13 Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. 14 The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners — of whom I am the worst. 16 But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life. 17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

18 Timothy, my son, I give you this instruction in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by following them you may fight the good fight, 19 holding on to faith and a good conscience. Some have rejected these and so have shipwrecked their faith. 20 Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme.
