Power Power to Believe

Power
Power to Believe

Wow!!! If only believing was easy
Jesus saw our struggle to believe
"O unbelieving generation," Jesus replied,
"how long shall I stay with you?
How long shall I put up with you?
But a wise father who lacked faith said
"I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!"
Where are you coming up short in the fullness of life God promised you?

Power to Believe

Believe

Your world is what you believe in.

It seems to be a simple
word yet it is very complicated.

I am not sure there is anything that
frustrated Jesus more than unbelief.

Mark 9:19 is a good example…

"O unbelieving generation," Jesus replied,
"how long shall I stay with you?
How long shall I put up with you?

Even Jesus could not help
people who did not believe.

Growing up in the church I remember our prayer meetings,
it seemed every request had the hashtag #If it be thy will.

It seemed we believed in God but
did not know how to believe in Him.

When I received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit,
I believed God to do everything I thought was good.

It is true we must believe that Jesus Christ died,
was buried and rose again on the third day to be saved.

That seems to be simple, but…

Even the demons believe and
they don’t have eternal life.

Believing in the Savior must transform your life.

Believing in the Lord Jesus Christ
means He becomes Lord of your life.

For Jesus to be Lord of our life we must
give Him the discussion power in our lives.

When we confess Jesus as our Lord, we are saying…

I will do what you want me to do,
I will go where you want me to go and
I will say what you want me to say.

Jesus many times rebuked His
disciples for their lack of faith.

In other words they came
up short, “Lack of faith”.

If you have $90 and want to buy
something that cost $100, you lack $10.

Although you have $90 the $10 you don’t
have keeps you from the item you want.

It is one thing to believe in “who Jesus is”
but it gets more complicated when it comes to
“what Jesus will do and how He will do it”.

Jesus wants us to believe in Him for “Life”.

He said I came that you might
have life and have it in abundance.

When Jesus said “O you of little faith”,
He was addressing the lack of faith to
believe for the food and clothes we need
Matthew 6:30; Matthew 16:30
protection from storms
 Matthew 8:26
doubt to walk in the supernatural
Matthew 14:31

Jesus in Mark 9 was talking to a
father whose son had a demon.

The father says to Jesus…

But if you can do anything,
take pity on us and help us.

Jesus picked up on the word “IF”.

"'If you can'?" said Jesus.
"Everything is possible for him who believes."

Everything is possible to those who believe.

The father is like you and I.

Doubt, fear and lack of knowledge hinder
us from living in the fullness of life.

The father’s answer was profound…

"I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!"

The father had $90 of belief
but was lacking $10 of believing.

Fear, doubt and lack of knowledge will cost you.

The disciple could not drive out the son’s demons.

The next time you can’t drive out
the demons or you lack your provision…

Be like the father and say…

"I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!"

Scripture Reading

Mark 9:19-24 NIV

19 "O unbelieving generation," Jesus replied, "how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me."

20 So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth.

21 Jesus asked the boy's father, "How long has he been like this?"

"From childhood," he answered. 22 "It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us."

23 "'If you can'?" said Jesus. "Everything is possible for him who believes."

24 Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, "I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!"
