Power Disarming the Powers Over You

Power

Disarming the Powers Over You

If you have given birth you know the inexpressible feeling
The feeling God has when you are born again
Through the cross Jesus Christ made a public spectral of authorities and powers
He also gave you power over sensual indulgences
Christ is the authority and power to give you victory
Over all other power in your life
Is there a power that keeps you from the place Christ made for you at the cross
He is the power, let Him rule over the things that control you

Disarming the Powers Over You

Look at what God did for you…

God made you alive with Christ.
He forgave us all our sins.

This is as refreshing as the birth of a baby.

How can you describe that moment?

With each one of our children I was
overwhelmed; I think I can safely say…

“I was totally overwhelmed”.

My feelings were off the chart.

That is what Christ does for us.

But what Christ did is so much greater…

He forgave us all our sins”

How wonderful is the birth of a baby.

Sadly, as the baby grows up there are powers
and authorities that influence that person.

These power and authorities
are both natural and spiritual.

Many find themselves thinking
spirituality is a life of do’s and don’ts.

We are controlled by what others think.

We also become controlled by
want Paul calls “sensual indulgence”.

This is the inability to restrain ourselves.

I grew up in a church that thought it was a sin to
play cards, drink or smoke, go to movies, and dance.

Others were told the type of clothes they must wear.

Like in the apostle Paul’s day it was a sin for a man
not to be circumcised, as well as, some foods were a sin.

All these rules became the laws of our lives.

They did not make us holy.

All these things put a restrain on us but
God nailed all those things, laws, to the cross.

This does not give us the
freedom to indulge in these things.

The law of the Old Covenant was good
but they did not make you holy.

What the law tried to do, and many of the
things in churches today try to do,
are to keep us from “sensual indulgence”.

The Bible does not say you can’t drink
but it does warn us of its indulgence.

The Bible does not tell you what clothes to
wear but it does warn us of its lustful effects.

In the end what authorities
and powers are in your mind?

What causes you to do what you do and not do?

What is controlling you?

Only one thing we are to let control us.

Jesus Christ nailed to the cross all the laws.

Jesus Christ made a public
spectacle of all authorities and powers.

So if you are not controlling
your “sensual indulgence”…

If there are powers keeping
you from living a holy life…

It is not the law that will set you free…

It is the power of Christ.

Fall at the cross…

The place God demonstrated
His love or you.

Ask God to personally make His power real to you.

The power to expose the powers
in your life that keep you from Him.

Let Him totally free you from
law and sensual indulgence.

Remember His rule with the perfect law of liberty.

Don’t settle for less in your life.

Scripture Reading

Colossians 2:9-23 NIV

9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority. 11 In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.

13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. 17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. 18 Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you for the prize. Such a person goes into great detail about what he has seen, and his unspiritual mind puffs him up with idle notions. 19 He has lost connection with the Head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.

20 Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules: 21 "Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!"? 22 These are all destined to perish with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings. 23 Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.
